A question about : Speeding Ticket help please, incorrect info written.

Hello,

Yesterday i did something stupid and was caught speeding on an effective 4 lane stretch of road by Police speed gun, pulled over went through the offence, breath test etc...
P.C. gave me the option of court or points & fine so took the latter and he wrote out fixed penalty notice slip, hand licence to police station within 7 days and fine to be paid within 28 days.

In the back of the police car he asked me for reg. plate which I stated and he wrote. (Note: he'd previously done a vehicle check and licence check on me.)
Later I read notice and found he had put incorrect registration plate letter down, since searchin online I've found that this car plate doesn't exist.

Could someone be able to tell me the legality of this notice with the incorrect details?

Many thanks

Best answers:

  • Makes no difference.
  • Were you speeding?
  • It's entirely up to you which way you want to go but it's a gamble.
  • Sounds like he could well have given you a "get out of jail free" card
    Double check on www.pepipoo.com
  • It won't work. The licence plate number would be corrected in the courtroom.
  • Another thought….If the OP accepted a fixed penalty notice at the time can he then retract that? Or is he guilty and the rest is enforcement rather than prosecution?
  • Only a court can find a person guilty. A fixed penalty is a way of avoiding court proceedings.
  • Off topic.
I assume by the time of your post you werent at the game, watching us beat the S... 2 v 0.

That must be a first in living memory!!
  • sorry for this late reply, posted on forum link provided & probably am unlikely to get out of it, so will be paying fine tomorrow.
