A question about : Small Charity IT Requirements

Hi
We are a small, young (2 years old) health charity providing support to people with muscular dystrophy. We are in need of new IT equipment but have limited spending power.
Can anyone suggest good options to purchase charity IT equipment (we use the Microsoft CTX service for software) with good spec, decent prices and payment options so no big upfront costs?
Thanks

Best answers:

  • Have a look at the Big Lottery Fund Awards For All. You may be able to get a grant for your equipment.
  • I'd also get in touch with your local voluntary services council and see if you can access grantfinding software to get it funded up front.
Also google 'circuit riders' to see if there's someone who can give you advice and support locally.
  • There are organisations such as:
"Jamie's Computers is the computer recycling social enterprise arm of The Society of St James; Southampton's largest homeless charity... " www.jamies.org.uk/
Keep a close eye on business news in your area. Businesses expanding, contracting and merging often have surplus IT equipment.
But be careful with second hand items. Ordinary office use doesn't require the most powerful computers but the PCs must handle Windows 7.
Check out www.lasa.org.uk/ and their www.ictknowledgebase.org.uk/ They work with charities like yours on these issues and have much information and advice.
  • Inkinddirect sometimes have pc#s and laptops for a good price
