A question about : Sky buyout of O2 Broadband

With the news of Sky purchasing O2's broadband business in the UK, would there be any opportunity for me to cancel my contract? I know a contract is a contract, but I signed up to be with O2. I would hate to give BSkyB any of my money.

I am on a very good deal with O2, but would happily pay more to move to a company I trust. So is anyone aware if the purchase would give grounds to end a contract?

Best answers:

  • Unless Sky attempt to change t&c then I am afraid you are stuck with it.
  • Unfortunately, that's what I thought.
  • I guess 02 needed the money to pay for their 4G licence.
I for one welcome our American/Australian overload.
Anyhoo not bothered as I'm on Tesco Mobile!
  • Service will go downhill now, and we will be paying a tyrant
  • Hey all,
3 months ago I entered into a 1 year contract with O2 broadband.
About a month after I joined them I received notification from BT that their new Infinity (super fast) broadband was now available in my street.
"Damn! I'm going to have to wait 11 months before I can enjoy this super fast internet access."
With Sky buying O2 broadband, can get out of the O2 contract?
I really hate Sky and don't want to give them my money, so I actually have two incentives to get out of this contract. Will it be possible, do you think. How could I find out?
    Many thanks,
    Gandalf
  • No -but if 02 contracts are converted to Sky BB accounts you'd be able to upgrade to Sky's Fibre service that uses the same set up as Infinity so might get the fibre service without having to wait the contract out. Depends how the takeover of accounts is handled but it may be to your advantage.
  • We've been with O2 broadband for about 4.5 years and I've managed to keep the cost quite low I think. We currently pay Ј6.95 for unlimited broadband that I've only ever had a problem with once and was resolved to great effect. I think the customer service from O2 is second to none with a freephone number and helpful staff. I hope that doesn't change. Although if I can get a discount with Sky now that I'll have broadband, line rental and TV with them would be interesting.
  • Q - I get a Ј5 discount on my O2 BB for having a PAYG O2 Mobile. Will i still need to top up Ј10 every 3 months to retain the discount?
  • Ooh, interesting thanks.
  • Your minimum contract remains in force, regardless of who now own it.
  • Recently got my daughter an iPhone on 02 and the bb discount played a big part in our choice.
Really worried now as I am very anti Sky.
  • Que? Mr Tickle is Talk Talk.
FYI I pay Sky Ј7.50 for BB and Talk + Ј119.40 for 12 months LR = Ј17.45 / month equivalent.
