A question about : Short tenancy agreement

I rented a house in October for a fixed 6 month period with an option to extend on a month by month basis. As the 6 months is up in march the agent wrote to me asking if I wished to renew the contract as agreed to a rolling contract we give a months notice the landlord gives us two months notice. They charged me Ј90 for the new contract which i paid. The agents emailed me now saying the landlord want another fixed contract (min 6 months) Can he do this? is the new agreement in place now I have paid and shouldnt he be giving me 2 months notice if he wants me out? I dont want to be ejected in March. Any advice ?
