A question about : Santa Train Clyde Valley Lanarkshire

Heard about this, but cannot find it on a google search.

Anyone know about a short train journey that ends with a Soft Play are and Santa Grotto.

Along Clyde Valley Lanarkshire, but NOT Sandyholme Garden centre as I just phoned them - they have no train.

Best answers:

  • It is at New Lanark - it is a brilliant day out ther regardless of the time of year.
here is the link to the site

  • Bo-ness & Kinneil Railway also runs a 'Santa train' during December, they are situated just off the M9 not far from Grangemouth.
  • There is a Train ride and ends in Santa's Grotto - not very good though -Crossford it is called. Few friends said they were very disappointed last year with the standard of it.
  • Just to clear things up, there is a train ride at New Lanark and one at Crossford. We went to the one at Crossford last year. our three year old loved in, went on a train to a wee station and then into a soft play area where you could stay as long as you wanted (shortbread and mulled wine for adults). Then on to see santa where i think he got a selcetion box.
My main gripe was that it was almost Ј8 each ! Yes adults have to pay too (although I don't think you were allowed to go in the soft play OR sit on santas knee ).
Went to sandyholme last week to see santa - they had reindeers and donkeys and loads of stuff to look at - Ј5 per child. Also the got to pick a toy and a selection pack. Saying that though my ds picked a helicopter which was broken before we got home!
  • ive never been but aparently the queues are terribly long,it can take hours.
  • We live 5 mins from the one in Crossford, and I do have to agree that it is expensive. The one in Crossford is at Village International Park. When you come into Crossford you'll go past the Tillietuddlem Inn on the right (if coming from the Rosebank/Sandyholme direction), then there's a pub on the left hand side (Crossford Inn), turn left immediately here and to across the old single lane bridge and turn immediately right into the VIP. It looks as though you are going into a private housing estate, but you're not, it's just beside it.
It also has stables, that Alan Rough can sometimes be seen in... now that has got to be a good advert...lol... and sometimes plugged accidentally on evening football show with Ruffy and Ewan on Real Radio.

  • This is the one in crossford - https://www.valleyinternationalpark.c...mas_index.html
  • Has anyone been here this year. We used to go and loved it, but that was a few years back, just wondered if it is still as good. I know it is quite expensive.

It seems to be still going. The last time I was there it was all a bit of a ghost town - the garden centre was all closed & empty. The soft play is good, though.
  • my experience at santas train and grotto. I was extremely disappointed, we have a 16 month old and all in it cost us Ј19 to see Santa, there is no way adults should pay full price aswell it's not like we are sitting on santas knee too. The tea and coffee in the grotto was rotten, the children's present was a Ј1 book in a carrier bag not a "fantastic gift" as stated on the website also I could only take my own photos if I paid Ј4 to the "photographer" (which was actually a man with digital camera) for his photo which is a small print that probally costs about 30p to print. It was a total rip off and I know some of the other people there today thought the same thing.
Safe to say I wouldn't go again
  • What a shame Danielle. we went years ago and it was a fantastic experience for kids and adults alike. Heard that it had gone downhill though. Didnt manage to take my three yo gransdon this year but judging by your experience maybe just as well. My kids have great memories of this place and would hate them to be tarnished.
As an aside we went to the Scottish Equestrian Centre in Lanark and was pleasantly surprised with a pony ride to see Santa. Decorations were lovely and quite magical. Santas visit was great and the play in Santas house was really enjoyable for all of us. Hot choc was really welcome!!!
Overall this was a great day and a huge success with dgs
