A question about : Samsung Tablet Cashback "offer" won't pay out

Hi

I have checked the forums and couldn't see any other posts the same so I have started a new thread.

My boyfriend bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 tablet before Christmas from Curry's whilst they had a Samsung Cashback promotion where you would get Ј50 cashback after buying.

He bought the tablet online and has now gone to claim his cashback from Samsung. He had to do this online and provide proof of purchase which was actually undefined by them what they needed. Firstly he provided the delivery packing slip which wasn't sufficient, so he went back and provided the order confirmation email AND the delivery packing slip. Still not sufficient. So he also provided the receipt he printed off from the Curry's website in My Account. Still insufficient. But they won't advise what he DOES need to provide.

What constitutes proof of purchase for an online order? I searched the internet but couldn't find any firm definition.

Has anybody else had problems with this promotion?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Fran

  • I claimed cash back about 2 years ago. I took a photo of curry's receipt and uploaded to the claim website. Are you sure he did this exactly after a certain number of days. If I remember right I think it was 21st after purchase and before 60 days. Look at the t&cs. My claim was successfully validated and got my cash back.
  • He needs to print off the invoice.
  • Yes he definitely did it within the alloted time - I've checked the T&C's.
@neilmcl - what constitutes the invoice for an online order? he's done the order confirmation and the receipt/invoice from the Curry's website under the 'My Account' section. That's all you get for online transaction.
  • I would have though the receipt would have been sufficient. Why do Samsung say it isn't?
  • That's the problem - they're not saying why it is insufficient or what they need - just that it isn't sufficient proof. I suspect stalling so that it goes over the time when they won't provide the cashback, that's why I wondered if anybody else had took up the offer from Curry's and ordered online and been successful in claiming the cashback.....but then if they'd been successful they probably wouldn't be on here
  • Similar thread.

  • Thanks bod1467, that is similar but that case was actually validated and then they didn't pay. In this case they won't validate the valid claim but won't say what they need to satisfy their request for "proof of purchase". When I've googled it it comes up with an offer from 2 years ago for Samsung where it was Ј80 and it was a dual claim process Ј50 from Samsung and Ј30 from retailer - but nothing came up for the 2014 promotion.
  • Go to a Curry's store and complain in person and very loudly?
  • Thanks FireWyrm, I think he is also taking it up with Curry's - but I suspect the onus is on Samsung as it was a manufacturer promotion. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a contact number anywhere for him to ring and speak to someone rather than just getting unjustified rejections. We can't understand why it isn't being validated as it was a straightforward online transaction and he's provided every bit of paperwork he has - so having someone to speak to would help - but would mean they'd have to pay if they actually advise him rather than letting the offer expire and saying he didn't get a valid claim in in time.
  • If the handset was bought through Currys, then Currys have responsibility here to assist you. I would still go to Currys and complain, loudly but not obnoxiously, that this is down to Currys and Currys should be sorting it out. You cannot be the first and only person to experience this issue and perhaps they can lean on the manufacturer where you cannot.
  • Thanks both, he is taking it up with Curry's but isn't the "complain loudly" sort which isn't necessarily a bad thing - he may get some helpful advice - depends who he speaks to.
I can't seem to find an email address for the Samsung promotions - I found a head office address and phone number for Samsung Electronics (UK) who are running the promotion but nothing else really. To be honest, electronic communications don't seem to be helpful with them - and can't find a phone number anywhere. Perhaps he should ring the general Customer Support and see if they can put him through anywhere...but pillar to post springs to mind. It' s just a nightmare - from reading the T&Cs closely he's fulfilled what they've asked for in the timescales required so I can't see why they keep rejecting his claim other than they don't want to pay out so want the time to run out.
  • CONDITIONS
Date of purchase then wait 30 days before submitting a claim .
Thats the condition to be qualified date of purchase and claim submitted after 30 days . Looks like that may be the error but we have no actual dates of purchase and claim .

  • Go into a currys store, ask them to print off the receipt, use this for the proof of purchase.
  • @JJEgan thanks for your input - yes he bought it on Nov 19th and completed the Claim online on Dec 19th.
@stugib - if they try rejecting it because he hasn't sent the 'correct' info then we'll fight it as they don't state anywhere in T&Cs what constitutes "proof of purchase" and I'm pretty sure that the order confirmation and corresponding delivery packing slip and the printed receipt from Curry's website are more than enough proof.
Was yours an online order - if so what info did you send exactly?
@CoolHotCold - worth a go - it may be the same as what he's printed off on their website but it may be different - he's ringing Curry;s after work tonight to see if they can help

Not sure how you would fight it as the T&C are clear .
The Promoter reserves the right at its absolute discretion to disqualify claims which it considers do not comply with these terms and conditions.
  • Apart from there is no definition of proof of purchase - and what he has sent does constitute proof - it's everything he has from the retailer - therefore we've met the conditions.
  • Samsung have actually come back to him with the following:
"What we need is the sales receipt/invoice.
If Currys/PC World have not provided you with this it can be acquired by contacting their customer support team who will be happy to send you a copy. Once we have this document we will be able to validate your cashback claim."
The problems with online ordering I guess - you don't get that after the supply - only the order confirmation and delivery note. Hopefully he can get that info today or tomorrow and it should then go through.
Thanks for the advice on here - I'll come back and update the outcome
