A question about : Sainsburys coupons

Has anyone else heard of Sainsburys sending out high value coupons to customers that rarely even shop with them?? I shop at my local Sainsburys at least once a week and only ever get the low value at-till coupons and my usual Nectar rewards, but my friend has just been sent a batch of coupons through the post including 6p off a litre of petrol when spending Ј20 and Ј4 off a Ј20 spend. And they hardly ever shop there.

This really makes me angry. whats the point in me staying loyal to Sainsburys when I get nothing back like this?? I get that they want to attract new customers but this just seems completely disproportiante and unfair.

Has anyone else come across this??

Best answers:

  • Yes, I've had this. My solution was not to be loyal to anyone supermarket anymore!
Though I am lucky as I have most supermarkets within close/closish proximity to me.
I now get better vouchers through though :-)
  • Yes, it's routine.
All it means is that I wait until I need more stuff before doing any shopping, so I can use the coupon.
  • yep my husband who only gets petrol from there gets Ј8 off Ј40 spends regularly. I get nout!
  • Yes, its routine. I switch between Tescos and Sainsburys, which ever one I neglect for a few weeks soon sends me some more coupons!
  • I had a similar experience today. Mrs Badger and I abandoned Sainsbury's a few months ago and now do our main 'boring' shop at Morrisons - it's a lot cheaper.
We do still pop into Sansbury's every few weeks, though, to get one or two products Morrisons don't sell - lo and behold, today I received a 360 free Nectar points voucher dependent on my next shop. I never received offers like that from Sainsbury's before I strayed, apart from once, a few years ago, when we were going through an Ocado phase.
They're out of luck, though - I've come to the conclusion that Sainsbury's prices are now pretty reliably the worst of the all big supermarkets:. near Waitrose level, without Waitrose's variety or quality.
  • Same issue here: I stuck to Sainsburys as my main supermarket as I preferred the customer service in comparison to Tesco and the quality of the stock alongside actually being able to shop in the supermarket and not have to clamber over a constant obstacle course of re-fill crates which are always there when I shop at Tesco.
I regularly spent between Ј5 and Ј20 per visit at Sainsburys, in the past have gone above the Ј30 mark less then a handful of times and I'd been using Sainsburys on and off for well over 10 years.
All the vouchers I get are "spend Ј40 and get 120 points" or "when you spend Ј60 online get x" and it drives me mad! I never get any of the jammy vouchers I watch others throw away (before anyone suggests bin raiding, there is a male jobs-worth/trout at the Angel branch in London who likes to tear the vouchers up if they end up in the bin). I got so fed up I have actually shifted to Tesco without even really noticing. I guess Sainsbury's just don't want certain customers like me.
  • All you have to do is play the game.
Have 2 nectar cards, one that's registered and another that isn't.
Do your shop with the ones that's registered to build up a profile with nectar.
Then stop using your card, use the unregistered one to collect the points, giving the impression that you have stopped shopping at sainsburys.
You will still collect points on your unregistered card.
As long as you have signed up to receive mailings from sainsburys you may get a mail out with some extra vouchers.
All retailers with a loyalty scheme do this.
  • I shop in Matalan most months and I always get a voucher from a every Ј25 spent - Ј5 off to 15% off use as much as you like card with 2 months of use.
  • I stopped shopping there for a few months thinking they would send me vouchers to try and get my custom back, but nothing, changed my nectar settings, tried having two cards, nothing works.
I think they need a rethink and stop taking their regulars for granted, it is really annoying when you are at the checkout and you see people with Ј8 off. I now shop for where I have vouchers as Tesco seem keen to keep me as a customer.
  • I also get no vouchers, but my flatmates keep getting them because they have lost their nectar cards and haven been bothered to get new ones sent out. As a result it is rare I don't have some form of double points/bonus points or money off coupon Plus people leaving their till spits lying around. It does annoy me though it is because if you are a loyal customer why should they bother to entice yo back? You are already going!
The app sometimes has some good deals for me too although I find again most of the time it is in a similar vein of trying to get you to buy up so I always get offers for bonus points for organic stuff etc. but I have also just got double points and bonus points ones before.
  • My mum only goes in S about once a fortnight. Got some Ј6 off Ј30 vouchers which she used on 3 for Ј10 meats, 3 for Ј12 wine and offers on washing and cleaning stuff
  • This is a bone of contention with me too. A while back I stopped shopping at Sainsbury's because of what I consider it's unfair treatment of regular customers and started shopping at Asda instead. I really dislike Asda, mainly because of it's abysmal stock control, especially on any decent offers. However, I persevered for a while before resorting back to Sainsbury's and, sure enough, I got better till spits because of my absence eg Ј4 off a Ј40 shop, Ј3 off a Ј30 shop etc. Unfortunately this didn't last long and I am now back to 160 points for a Ј40 spend etc. No thanks Sainsbury's, as much as I dislike them I am off back to Asda again for a while!!
  • I got some the other day for Ј3 off a Ј15 spend. There were four lots of those and then an extra 2000 points (Ј10) if you use all four coupons. Pretty generous I thought. The thing is I do actually shop in Sainsbury's a lot, but I rarely spend more than a fiver each time, so I guess they just want me to spend more. They always give me very generous coupons.
