At risk of redundancy

A question about : At risk of redundancy

I have found out that all the people who do the same as me including me are all at risk of redundancy and we will need to re-apply for our jobs (I'm assuming that there will be a lot less jobs therefore heightened risk of not getting it again). Feeling very anxious about it, trying to be practical, I'm a nurse so have searched for nursing agencies that I could apply so I could get shift work, my hubby works away so this does makes shifts more difficult as we have dogs.

Any advice about what the at risk of redundancy and the re-applying for jobs means? Seems like two completely separate things to me!

• They are two separate things. At risk of redundancy simply means what it says on the packet - you are at risk of redundancy but that may never happen. It kicks into gear a legal process. You will have to apply for one of the positions available (unless there are very good reasons why you can't). If you then do not get one you remain at risk of redundancy until you are served notice of redundancy. From the point at which you don't get one of the jobs to the end of your notice period, the employer is still legally obliged to look for other suitable alternatives employment for you which may avoid the need for redundancy at all.

• When this happened to me last year, I took the opportunity to go out and find myself another job offer. It gave me loads of confidence going into the interviews - as I knew I had an alternative plan.
  I also made sure that my learning was up to date (paid by my existing employer).
  I was offered one of the new roles, and decided to stay - but it was a conscious decision made on my terms - not theirs.
  Hope it goes well for you. But even if it doesn't there are other alternatives out there. The biggest issue is if you let it start to affect your confidence.
