A question about : Renting out my house for Ryder Cup 2010

I live not far from the Ryder Cup venue for 2010 (Celtic Manor, Newport) and hear you can earn fabulous money by renting out your house. Has anyone else found a website where this can be done or is considering doing it themselves? I'm a bit apprehensive about the state of the house on our return but I guess you can take a bond to cover any damage.

  • I seem to remember that a former rugby player has set up a company for this very purpose - can't remember his name or the name of the company but I'm sure a search on perhaps the argus website will yield results.
Although I am sure that there is abit of money to be made from this, I'm not sure I would do it ........I would be worried about people going through my things. Also another thing to consider is whether you would be allowed to rent out your house if you had a mortgage and whether it would invalidate any insurances etc
  • I'd have to think long and hard if this would be worth while, you need to consider taking extra insurance for the period it was let, paying the tax man his cut, agents fees, possible storage fees for clothes & other items & probably a couple of other things I can't think of.
  • Somebody I know did the same thing for the FA cup final a few years ago. Moved in with his girlfriend for the weekend and made enough money to pay for their summer hols. No problems at all. I think he just put an ad in the paper.
  • Thanks all for your views. I must admit I am a bit worried about the state they would leave the house in. I would take a deposit of course, and lock up private papers. I haven't entirely abandoned the idea yet, it just needs careful thought.
  • I too have been informed about this by a friend who done it last year. He made an awful lot of money more than some peoples yearly wage! All the hotels are all ready booked up its madness. I am also considering it this year

  • having done something similar in the past with ex pat friends for 10 days while we went on holiday, (no fee involved just our plain old generosity) there is no way i would let out my home. they could offer me Ј5,000 for the week and i would still say no !!!!!!!

  • I have just posted a thread before i saw this.
https://www.rydercuphomerental.co.uk looks quite professional compared with some of the others.
would this give your property a better chance of renting it the advert look professional.
can you really make ЈЈЈ's from this, arn't bed and breakfasts a better option or will they be all booked up...
  • the more and more i think about this, the more i'm tempted. i'm figuring i could rent out my house, go on holiday whilst they're in and then tidy up when i get back.
just don't like the idea of someone being in my house, and also worried about the tax side of it, i know i'd lose my tax credits for that year and i know that the profit would be more than my tax credits, but i'm just not sure how much i'd be better off.
mmmm something to keep thinking about i guess!!!
  • Alex Popham I understand has a property rental company somewhere and I did hear onthe grapevine that houses in and around the Celtic Manor were going for about Ј20k a week. Whether at this present time they still are who knows.
