A question about : Removal companies, Glasgow area

I wonder whether anyone could recommend any decent removal companies in the Glasgow area. I am splitting up from my husband, and so money is (inevitably) an issue, but so is the sheer physical task of moving - last time, we did most of it ourselves.
Our house just now is large, spread over 4 floors, and I'll be moving with 3 kids to something much smaller, so it's going to take a lot of organisation/ebaying/charity shopping to ditch a lot of stuff.
Do the companies generally provide packing cases, and does anyone know roughly how much it is likely to cost?
Thanks in advance - all advice appreciated

  • I can't give a recommendation but can offer some advice.
Yes, companies will provide packing cases and will pack for you. However the real pain is unpacking, try to get quotes that include unpacking.
Companies will try to sell you insurance cover, check with your home insurer to see if you are already covered and what the limits are.
There are web sites, for finding removal company quotes, that work the same way as motor insurance comparison sites. You enter the details and they get quotes from a number of companies for you to compare. reallymoving.com is one but there are others if you Google.
  • We moved from a high rise (9th floor) 2 bed roomed flat to a 3 bedroomed house 3 miles up the road and used flat2flat removals who I found on gumtree. they were great they supplied loads of boxes as part of the package and cost Ј300. It took them all day and we had a lot more than they had bargained for but they stuck with it and they didn't even try and shift on the original quote. The boys were fantastic and even took it upon theirselves to repair a bed we had which we were going to chuck it out at no extra cost!
Just googled them and their web address is https://www.flat2flat.co.uk/1/1/Home/...n_Glasgow.html
  • We moved from a 3 bed house to a 4 bed house and after much research and several companies visiting our property, we went with Caledonian Moving & Storage.
They supplied boxes at less than half the cost of the ones we bought online last time we moved. Also they did not charge any extra for insurance.
They did all the packing for us the day before we moved, the packing team were were trained to pack export shipments and were very good. As with all the compaines, they could only unpack onto a flat surface so we decided it would be easier to unpack the boxes at our own pace rather than have all the contents emptied and having to spend the whole night puting everything away.
they did make sure boxes with essential items were kept seperate so we cold unpack them straight away, and they came back a week later when we had unpacked and took all the empty boxes away for free.
We actually found this company through reallymoving then googled them and they had a stack of great reviews.
If you google removals glasgow you will findthem on the first page somewhere.
We are having ane xtension built when the weather gets better and will be using them for storage, will post again to say how this went.
  • I would also highly recommend Flat2Flat. They were absolutely fantastic when we moved from a 2 bed flat to a 3 bed house. The removal company we had initially booked had been an nightmare and not delivered boxes when promised so we decided to try Flat2Flat. I phoned for a quote and they were so helpful we decided immediately to use them, and the free boxes were delivered within the hour. Unfortunately we had a bit of a nightmare and our moving date was changed last minute several times, however Flat2Flat were brilliant and took a huge weight off our mind. The guys were extremely helpful and friendly and I can't recommend them enough.
  • Errrm the original post was almost three years ago?
  • Maybe so, but new people do come looking for suggestions and actual experience.
I too can recommend flat2flat, our daughter just used them to move and they were very efficient, friendly and keenly priced.
  • Another recommendation for Flat2Flat from me! I used them on my last move and plan to use them again for my next. The 2 guys were really friendly and worked their derrieres off, the price was excellent and the free boxes were an added bonus.
  • I recently used a removal company called Zebra Movers. The price was ok, nothing special, we had been quoted much cheaper but I found from the initial contact with the company that they were very professional so we decided to rather get what you pay for as opposed to finding some cowboys at half the price. I have to say the service was brilliant, Ive never moved before properly with family and stuff only as a student, but if this is how a good removal company operates then I can tell you right now its totally stress free.
The guys who moved us could not have been nicer. My wife and I used their packing service and couldnt believe the effort they took in packing our stuff. They even wrapped our spice bottles which I found wasteful of packing material. Nevertheless they carried out a flawless service.
I know they based in Glasgow and do believe they have office is London somewhere and I think Belgium or Paris? As i am a newbie on this forum I am unable to post weblinks. You can find them by searching "zebra movers".
We tried flat2flat for a quote as recommend by a friend, I dont believe the company has much experience with full house moves even though the guy tried convincing me that he is changing the business name to home removals company or something...? Defo recommend zebra movers!
  • Hi everyone, my name is Peter Bett. I am the director of flat2flat removals, although I'd like to let you know we've actually changed name now to "The Home Removals Company". Don't worry, nothing's changed! Our website has been refreshed a bit but the staff, service and customer focused philosophy of the company remains unchanged!
Thanks everybody for your kind comments, I always pass all positive feedback straight to the guys and it makes them extra determined to keep all our clients as happy as possible!
You can find us online by searching for "flat2flat Glasgow". Our new website domain appears top of the list.
    Regards, Peter Bett
  • I used stevens removals and they were excellent. I have moved house a few times in the last few years and I've also bought and sold lots of stuff on ebay and used various companies but I can't recommend stevens removals enough. I just won;t use anybody else now as I knwo the wee guy steven really cares about clients' possesions. He really looked after my stuff and there were no scratches on anything which, with previous companies, I could tell they were just throwing my stuff about when I wasn't looking. T: 0141 951 1513 or 07778 742 150 or google his name
  • I know I'm a bit late to this, however, I have just moved home and would definitely recommend the company that I used. It is a family company based in Paisley called DS Carriers Ltd. The price that they gave me was very reasonable and the service second to none. There was great communication throughout the process and they were happy to answer all my questions. On the day of my move, the team were extremely professional and friendly and took the stress out of the day. I really appreciated all the extra touches that they offered, such as assisting me with my packing and providing materials such as mattress and sofa bags to protect my things. I cannot recommend them enough. You can email them at info@dscarriers.co.uk. A great company!

Hmmm, wasn't this the company who were on that BBC Watchdog programme?
LOL!!!! YOU RIGHT, DS CARRIERS GLASGOW WAS ON WATCHDOG. BEWARE!! Clearly and obviously written by the company as is the lame excuse of a review from jamesmcnully for STEVENS REMOVALS. Who moderates this forum?
As per my previous post, friends who used flat2flat or home removal company as they now called said they were great, cheap, friendly and helpful guys, however in my opinion the company is more set up for small flat moves.
I used Zebra Movers who were great, no complaints apart from price slightly on the high side and excess use of packaging material. However you get what you pay for with them so no complaints.
I recommended Zebra Movers to my work colleague who tried booking with them, they were booked up. He used dmg and said it was a great company. Price was high with them too but he said no complaints, good company.
A good place to find movers in Glasgow is review sites. There are a quite a few but trawl through them all to fish out the best. You will notice some household names coming in with some shocking stories. Always obtain minimal 3 quotes. If you moving a large flat or house insist on a home visit to avoid disputes. Watch out for cowboys, there are hundreds of them in Glasgow. If they only operate vans generally they not geared towards formal large housemoves. Worthwhile also checking company house for registration numbers, its good to know there is some credibility behind the name. Watch out for lame reviews like the above, obvious company written like Stevens and ds carries.
  • Just used these guys for the second time in 6 months and I highly recommend them. Each time it was a move into a flat and storage unit made very straightforward by their efficiency. A great bunch of guys, all very friendly, efficient and highly professional. Good price also. Safe hands I reckon.
  • LOL this is becoming a comedy show.
All these first time posters whose very first post is to plug a company. Things must be getting desperate in the removals world.
