A question about : Remortgage or loan?

I need some advice please as to whether I need to go for a remortgage or loan?
I'm 63 next birthday, still working full time and not expecting to retire for the foreseeable future, as I love my job and earn good money. I am mortgage free now, but want to have work done in the house that will cost Ј30,000-40,000. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Best answers:

  • At your age you should be aware that you may not be working much longer.
The crunch question is how much can you afford to repay each month.
Lenders will look at your age and your income to assess whether or not they will lend you any money.
A mortgage is only a loan secured on an asset (maybe a house). I doubt anyone would consider lending you this amount of money without security.
First find someone who will lend you the money, then consider the conditions.
  • Thank you, I'll start looking for a lender.
  • I would suggest you try your bank first.
  • Great idea, thanks!
  • I will suggest you approach a Bank like Santander or even Halifax for or even your old Building Society for a remortgage/ New mortgage. Go for a Flexi option where you only payinterest on what you withdraw.
This can be much cheaper and length period can be 14 years +.

  • Thank you for the advice, I've booked an appointment with Halifax for next week.
