A question about : regulating solicitor behaviour

Hello Can anyone please help me- i am writing in connection with my elderly mother (85) who suffered very bad injuries (multiple fractures) and was in intensive care following being hit by a revolving door in a well known builders centre.
The case was taken on by a solicitor who has successfully negotiated a compensation amount and also the firm has agreed to pay the solicitors cost. The compensation has been paid in full to the solicitor.
however the solicitor has withheld her wages from the settlement amount since they have not been agreed with builders centre. the solicitor says she can do this legally but i think it is bad behaviour, morally wrong, my mother is very fragile now and needs her money paid to her, The solicitor has been witholding a large sum of money for 9 months now because she claims she cannot agree an amount for her wages with the builders centre. In all this time my mother is getting older and weaker and i almost feel the builders centre and the solicitor are hoping she will not live long enough to get the full and rightful amount she is owed .

  • Did she or you pay using a credit card?
  • Can you elaborate, was your 85 year old mother working at the builders centre? Did the compensation include an element for loss of earnings?
  • I'm at a complete loss to understand what this has to do with Stoozing?
    OP, going up-against a solicitor when you are a bit dishonest yourself is really not a good idea. You should really go back and read the posting basics you confirmed to have understood, then repost or have this moved to a more appropriate forum. That way you will get much better advice.

  • I don't think the builders center in question employ the solicitor so they can't set her wages. Perhaps a third party such as Citizens Advice or your MP can shine some light onto the legal state of affairs given all the facts.
