A question about : Regular transfer Ј to Euro

Hi

I have a Euro mortgage for a property in Crete. I have to regularly transfer 600 Euro, pretty much each month. I currently do so via my Halifax current account. If I'm honest, I don't know what exchange rate I get and I also pay a Ј9.50 fee each time!

Any suggestions on cheaper/more cost affective ways to transfer?

Thanks

Ian

Best answers:

  • Citibank UK gives you a ЈSterling and Euro current accounts with cheque books in each currency.
You can transfer between accounts on-line or by telephone. The exchange rate is quite good, although not the best available.
You can then pay by cheque, or transfer. They do NOT do Direct Debit. When in Crete you can get Euros from an ATM.
  • My mate has a house in Costa de la Luz and his wife works for Halifax.
They put a lump some in a Spanish bank account and then moves money down, when the exchange rate is good, as it is now. Said Halifax gives a good rate, so he has no issues.
    Something to think about maybe?
  • Try looking here
    comparemoneytransfer.co.uk/regular-transfers
they're companies that give you a better deal when making regular transfers. You should get a better exchange rate from these companies and also in many cases you will not have to pay a fee per transfer.
  • My strong advice is to use a currency transfer specialist, as they can beat bank rates every time and some even do the transfers for you without any fee at all. I wish I could advise you of one company that will always give you the best rates the problem is that they all change their rates so many times a day to adjust for currency fluctuations in the market it is not possible to say any one company will constantly give the best rate. Remember when choosing a specialist to use one that is fully licensed and regulated by all the authorities in the country in which it operates from to make 100% sure you money is safe. I personal use a specialist company that can get the best me the best rates every time by checking instantaneously the rates of all the transfer brokers and for no fee get me the best rate. If you need advice just pm me or email me and I will Help as much as I can. One last thing to consider is looking at independent forums when choosing a specialist. That way you can actually see from the clients from which ever firm you decide to use how trustworthy and honest the company really is. Good luck in your search and I wish you well. John
  • Hello Cardew,
Thanks for your response, I can assure you that I do not work for or receive any kind of kick back from any brokers at all. I was just posting as a helping hand. I understand what you say regarding Crown currency and you have a point there but I was really trying to say that if the reviews are awful then one might decide to stay away from a dodgy company
