A question about : Refund for Cancelling Craft Fair

Hi

I need advice on whether I am entitled to a refund for a craft fair I have booked into at the end of July. I have paid Ј45 for a stall via Paypal on 8th May and my work have now changed my shifts so I can't attend. It was in the application form that no refunds would be provided but I tried to cancel and asked if I could either get a refund or attend another fair at another time. I was told this was not possible, it's not her fault I realise this but the woman has waiting lists for the fair so will have no trouble in getting another Ј45 for my table. Am I entitled to a refund in any way for a service that I have not yet received and I am trying to cancel on the 7th working day after making the payment?

Thanks

Best answers:

  • Why not email her and ask for a refund when she has resold your stall? Or ask that your payment is then transferred to a date you CAN do - unless your employer changes your shifts again.
She may have a waiting list but not for whatever you were going to sell, and she has to cover the costs of the hall regardless of whether anyone turns up.
At the end of the day if the form stated no refunds then I think you're on a loser, but being polite and asking for the suggestions to be considered may go down better than trying to force a refund.
  • at the end of the day deposits in most cases are non-returnable..
You are lucky you don't have to pay the whole amount.. as some events, if you cancel after a certain date near the event you are still liable to pay the full amount.
Think you are clutching at straws here, AND if you do claim your money back via paypal, you could actually find yourself in court for breech of contract..at the end of the day they have done nothing wrong... its YOU backing out of the event..
  • Is it at all possible to find someone to take your place who sells something similar and get them to pay you the Ј45, or could someone run the stall for you?
