A question about : Red Spotted Hanky problems; Rail Fare sites

A recent post advises that RSH is to reintroduce the Ј1 charge they formerly made, within the next few days. IN THE PAST I found this site excellent for lowest fares, as well as for searching for multiple fare splits manually. My recent search for B'ham to Chester fares gave prices way over the odds, and I strongly advise against relying on RSH any more. MSE seems to give the lowest fares but you need to put in a lot of different times to find the lowest fares on a day; it is much harder than RSH used to be. There is a brfares site which is good (but cumbersome) for finding the ranges of fares for any given journey, and esp. who sets these fares, enabling you (with difficulty) to find the best site to get these fares! The best option as of early 2015 seems to be to find a small local (franchised?) station which can aid you. Gobowen has always been excellent if you're in N.Shropshire or Wales borders, but you'll need to get there to collect! These stations (possibly other?) can advise on and supply APC tickets more than 3 months in advance, inc. Open Time ones, which can often be as cheap as or cheaper than some fixed train ones!! It's a Crazy Rail Fare world!. MSE is OK but primitive! Trainline may perhaps now be better than I found it some time ago.
Good luck - you'll need it with a lot of patience too.
