A question about : Reclaim bank charges

I have 7 bank accounts / credit card accounts that I intend to claim the charges back from.

2 of the credit card accounts have been closed.
2 of the bank accounts are business accounts and have been closed.

Does this matter? I presume the banks keep the records, and the the charges can be claimed on the information they hold?

Thanks
Dantheman

  • umm, bit confused, think you may have posted in the wrong place as this is the ebay and auctions, car boots etc. forums - your bank and credit card companies will have access to your statements which will show the charges you are referring to and they will then be able to take appropriate action.

  • I have written the first of the letters to my bank to reclaim bank charges; asking for the last 6 years statements/info on my account as I have not kept all my statements from the last 6 years, so need them to add up all the disproportionate charges/fees.
I have just received a letter back from my bank stating that under Sections 7 and 8 of the data protection act 1998 they can only provide such info 'if it does not require significant effort on the bank's part to locate and produce' and as I am asking for 6 years' data this would cause them significant effort and they are asking for Ј6 per page for the statements prior to 2004.
This as with all the other fees and charges seems ridiculous. Is it worth paying the Ј6 per page in the hope I might get back several hundreds pounds back?? I have already paid the Ј10 fee as required under the Data Protection Act. ????????
  • Standard procedure to charge you for statements. Also, the banks way of getting more money from you. perfectly legal.
Be aware, a lot of people are hopping on this "get your charges back" bandwagon.
Any bank has the right to close an account at any time if they see fit to. Check the small print.
Be careful you don't find yourself without a bank that will give you an account.
  • Hi Dantheman.
Welcome to MSE. I've moved your post over to the Current Accounts board for you where you should find some more help and advice.
Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies.
