A question about : Recent CitiBank Applicant?

Hello All.

After speaking with a few other members I decided to apply for the CitiBank Account. More out of curiosity than anything, oh plus the £50 Quidco Cashback ofc title=Smile

For those of you who are not aware. The CitiBank account is a full current account, however some forum members have had success in applying for an account, even with adverse credit histories. Although this does not in anyway guarantee success for everyone.

I am currently quite happy with my Yorkshire Bank account as it suits my needs perfectly. But it would be nice to open the CitiBank Account as the interest rates are a little higher.

Anyway, my question ... apparently I have to provide them with a cheque for £1 as proof of my ID and first deposit.

Now not having a cheque book on my current account, I cannot do this.

Has anyone else been in the same situation and what did you do to open your account?

Thanks

Saint

  • I have opened a Citibank account and had the same problem.
To get around this I opened a Norwich and Peterborough basic account which comes with a cheque book and then just used that account to pay them the Ј1, also a few people have mentioned that if you hold a nationwide account they can do cheques for you at the counter if you need them.
goto www.netmastergold.co.uk to apply for the account.
    Good luck
  • Hmm, I wonder if I can draw a counter-cheque at Yorkshire Bank.
  • My cheque for the Citibank account is going to bounce (off to a good start, aren't I) and they asked me if I could get a bankers draft, maybe you could try that.. I have informed them that its going to bounce and am waiting for them to get back to me to see if there is a way around it so will get back to you when they do.
  • You don't need a cheque, you just need to supply them with an additional form of ID. I have the same problem and phoned them yesterday - that's what they said to me.
  • Was just going to tell what Ant has just told you......................
I need to go into a LloydsTSB branch with ID and some funds 'cos my account has already been opened without the cheque cleared. Otherwise I would have had to send them additional ID. I'm sure you will get this account - it seems too easy especially when you've got credit files like mine!?! But who are we to question a bank????????????
  • Thanks for the information, Ant and Weller.
    Very useful.
What form of debit card is supplied on the CitiBank account? Visa Debit or Maestro?
    Cheers

  • I am very interested in this Citibank account however the terms and conditions seem to suggest that I must deposit a salary of Ј1500 a month, I currently only earn around Ј1000 per month, anyone else here opened an account earning less than Ј1500 per month??
  • Just looked at their T&C's....

  • Hmmm, well I'll wait and see what happens with my application and feedback to the forum
  • I've heard they're issuing Electron cards now from someone I know that has an account with them and has one himself. I hope this isn't the case as the sole reason I wanted the account was for a proper Visa debit card.
  • Guess we'll find out.
  • Don't know what to do now - I only applied because of a thread stating they issued a visa debit card and cheque book. Got my Pin Number this morning so hopefully the "card" wont be far behind so will let you all know what it is when I recieve it. When I called them they said they only issued Visa Debit cards but I think the call centre is not in England and it was hard to understand exactly what was been said. Can you use an Electron card online? This was the main reason for me needing a Visa Debit Card.
Well, I can only wait and see - as for the cheque book, surely they issue one when the account is opened so they can't be sure if you will deposit more than Ј1500 every month?
    Don't understand all this really.
  • Just had a thought but don't know if its ethical or whatever but can't you just draw the money out and pay it back in a day later and so on?
In effect you would be depositing the required amount.
  • Keep us informed and I shall do the same!
  • Hello everyone
Just thought I'd post with regards the Citibank account. Have received a Visa Debit Card from them this morning and cheque book but the card is not also a cheque garrantee card, just a basic Visa Debit but I, for one, am happy with that.
Hope this helps anyone who is considering Citibank/or has applied.
  • Thankyou for the update Weller. Nice to hear.
Will also post when I receive all my items too.
  • I have received my visa debit card but they have not paid my cheque into the account, not received cheque book yet either.
