A question about : Received a tax rebate! Yay!
Hey guys!
So I got home from work yesterday to a P800 letter from HMRC saying they owe me nearly Ј2300 in overpaid tax over the past 3 years.
I went through all their paperwork they sent me but it doesn't tell me how I am supposed to reclaim this overpayment? They give you lots of info on how to make a payment if you've underpaid but nothing on overpayments? Does anyone know how I should do this or whether it's automatic or what I need to do and how long the process takes?
Thanks!
Mike
Best answers:
- Have you submitted tax returns?
They give you an opportunity there to nominate a bank account for refunds.
Otherwise they send a cheque. Expect it in the next few days. - Ask them to pay it into a Swiss HSBC account!
- Lend us a fiver.
- Congratulations! I used to get a tax rebate every year, best one was about Ј2500, as I worked for several marketing companies at basic tax rate. It's all in order now, so no rebates any more.
I trust you will enjoy that money, whether you spend it or save it. I used to spend half and save half. - Sorry for the late reply guys but yep, cheque arrived a couple of days after! Looking forward to a trip to NYC in the summer
