A question about : Raising money for a family member?

Hi,

I don't know if this is the right board but I'm trying to find out how I can setup an online page to raise money for my son's school? He has a heart condition and I'm trying to raise money to purchase a defibrillator for his school. All of the charity pages seem to allow you to setup an account to raise money for a particular charity but I want to raise money for this personal cause.

I hope someone is able to help me and point me in the right direction?

Thank you in advance title=Smile

Best answers:

  • Stop thinking of it as a personal cause - the defibrillator will be available for anyone who needs it.
Does the school have a Parents' Association or a Friends' Group? Would they get involved in the fund-raising?
  • I know Private Schools are all legally charities, dont state schools have a charitable or similar status?
It'd be a case of raising funds for the school or its charitable arm and then having an agreement with the school of what the funds will be used for.
As above, whilst your driver may be personal presumably you arent having it there for the exclusive use for your son and when he moves on to another school it will be left there
  • Well I know it's not a personal cause and it would benefit all pupils and future pupils of the school but obviously my personal reason is for my son.
The school do have a group which do lots of fundraising events throughout the year as the school is very small and doesn't receive much government funding so they have to raise money for their school equipment etc.
Ideally I'd like to be able to raise enough money so all schools in the area have one but I'm finding it difficult to find a charity which will donate the money I raise to the individual schools for the purchase of buying a defibrillator and training the staff on how to use it and CPR training.
  • No I haven't see that website before, I'll take a look now, thank you.
  • Shouldn't the school have a defib anyway? not sure if a Dr suggested it would be a good idea or is a regulation but I thought that buildings that contain a large number of people should have a defib as best practice.
At work we have 4 defib machines on each floor, with at least ten staff on each floor trained in how to use them, even though are a doddle and prompt the user how to implement.
  • There is already a government drive for all schools to have a defib in place so tbh you should be pushing the school board to make it a priority. The risk for your son would warrant it so there would be no reason for them to deny the school the equipment to keep at least one of their pupils safe.
