A question about : a question

I am in the process of putting my house up for sale, I am not in any great rush to find somewhere knew, I have a friend I can stay with! When I pay the solicitors fees for selling will it work out more expensive if I am to buy at a later date, thanks sam,

Best answers:

  • There would probably be some economies if you used one solicitor for both transactions simultaneously.
Law society rules mean that solicitors can only charge you for the work they do though, although many charge a fixed fee for conveyancing.
If the sale is very simple it may be cheaper for you to use a licensed conveyancer or even do it yourself, although your mortgage company may not like the last option.

  • I've never met a flexible solicitor in my life, when it comes to money. They don't like to talk about it.
Ever haggled with a solicitor? It's pointless!
Just buy later anyway, if the market falls, and you save thousands, then the solicitor's fees will become irrelevant.
Major decisions of this kind (buying or selling property) should never be governed by the cost of fees here or there. Think big.
  • Hi Snoopy,
It is very doubtful that you would get much of a deal from a solicitor when buying and selling at the same time.
Why not use an online conveyancing service? They are run by qualified solicitors, and offer really cheap fixed price packages.
