A question about : Is PT the scariest game ever made?

I WATCHED the demo of PT on youtube and it terrified me.
Are games getting too scary?
What's the scariest game you ever played?
Why was it? Did you finish it? Did you ENJOY it?

Best answers:

  • I think the tattoo reveal about halfway through was brilliant, but I wouldn't describe Planescape: Torment as "scary"!
There are "jumpy" games, like AvP (the original) and Clive Barker's Undying, but I'd say the scariest games are definitely on the Rift. That spooky house-in-the-woods wander wants to be top of my list, but that spot actually belongs to Riftcoaster... got to the top of the first peak, and just as the drop started, I ripped the Rift off my head.
    Yes. I am a wuss.
  • Amnesia the dark descent a couple of years ago (cost a quid on some bundle), with headphones on, in 3d with philips ambx at night. A little bit of poo came out. Keep meaning to try a machine for pigs, but not sure i could cope. That aliens game was scary in places, but also annoying and unrealistic.
  • I've played lots of horror games, Resident Evil series, Silent Hill series, Clive Barker's Jericho, Alan Wake, etc. it takes quite a lot to scare me and the Silent Hill games do do a great job with jump scares, especially in the first three games (and I was younger when I first played them).
But the worst was the Fatal Frame games. It's you in a big scary location full of demon ghosts and your only weapon is a camera.
  • The first FEAR had some good jump scares. The last of us has some insanely tense moments when you're trying to stealth about. Bioshock has good creepy value and ravenholm in HL2 is ace.
  • Limbo..... still gives me nightmares.
  • I think games rely too much on jump scares, not building up tension with story and the element of danger.
  • how on earth did you find Planescape Torment "scary"? O.o
  • I have done some research, and apparently there is a "P.T." demo on one of the consoles (PS4 or Xbone, or maybe both) which is "scary".
  • P.T. stands for playable teaser. It's a "demo" released by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro for the new "Silent Hills" game. The plot isn't directly taken from the game but gives us a taste of the atmosphere and style we can expect. Having played it myself I can say it's pretty creepy and scary and I'm not new to survival horror. I watched a load of playthroughs on youtube too and what I really like is that the game plys out slightly differently for everyone. You can easily miss little triggers and clues which alters your experience.
  • Clive Barkers Undying Scared the Hell out of me, i remember playing it at like 2am with the lights off on my PC, the wife was asleep next to me. That dude popped up when i was not expecting it, I jumped screamed, woke the wife, who thought i was being murdered or something, LOL good times.
  • I'm glad someone else said limbo it freaks me out too
  • try daylight! also try the evil within. good adrenalin pumping games.
  • The PT video on YouTube makes the game look utterly terrifying and definitely not something I'd ever play!
  • Its not neccessarily the scariest game I've ever played, but I've got a story which is possibly the scariest experience I've ever had, and it revolves around a game.
When I was a student, me and my housemates were playing one of the Resident Evil games on the GameCube, which was pretty scary anyway! We had the curtains closed, and was huddled round a very small TV with the volume quite loud. Just at an especially horrific moment there was a knock at the door which made us jump. When we opened the door, it was a TV inspector asking if we had a TV license. Luckily I'd called up and arranged one about 6 hours earlier, but still, it was pretty scary!
As for the scariest game I've personally played, I've never experienced something as scary as that day, but any zombie based games like Left 4 Dead and Dead Rising tend to make me jump when attacked at random by a horde of the undead!
  • Hi, I have not tried a scary game before but I am challenge to try this PT game that you mentioned it here. I want to find out how frightening it is and how far I could have stay with it
  • Outlast - but then again I bottle everything scary.
