A question about : Prudential Error

Hi All
My friend at work is in a real nightmare scenario - Prudential have paid out her and her ex-husband's JOINT endowment policy which totals Ј30k, but they have paid it all into his account, leaving her Ј15k out of pocket. Her ex isn't the nicest of people and is ignoring texts/calls etc to give her her half. She has contacted Prudential and they have admitted it is their fault as they should have paid the money equally to each party, but this was over a week ago now and she still hasn't got her money back from them. She is going through the complaints procedure at present but I can see her getting more and more stressed by this. Prudential have contacted her ex but he is ignoring calls, she has contacted the Police but they say it is a civil matter. To make matters worse she is relying on the money to pay the builder who is now overdue.......
Any help greatly appreciated - also, is this the right board to post on????
Thanks all

  • Sadly not. The police are wrong by the way, it is a criminal matter in the same way as theft. The money was paid out and is not his. The bank admits this and the ex is refusing to return it voluntarily. That's theft.
Beyond that, she needs professional guidance and I doubt anyone on here is qualified to offer that, especially by proxy.
  • That's what I thought re the Police - its theft simple as, they wouldn't entertain it though. I do feel sorry for her, she's a genuinely nice person and the ironic thing is that they have 3 kids who live with her, the impact that this is having on her also impacts on them emotionally and financially, but her ex isn't bothered, its a control thing I suppose. Thanks for the reply
  • I would be leaning very heavily on the bank. The money was not theirs to apportion and the result is entirely their making. Threaten them with the FSA and papers.
Go back to the police and demand to make a complaint of theft. Tell the desk sergeant to pull his head out of his !!! and do his job politely that you would like to make a complaint to his superior if he wont take her complaint seriously....
