A question about : Problems with my printer

I need some help regarding connecting my printer to my computer. It has been working ok, but for some reason I am now having problems with it.

I have a Lexmark X4690 and my computer is a Samsung using windows 8, I have upgraded to windows 8.1.

Today I visited my neighbour as I couldn't print and I was able to print a word document on her printer with a USB connection.

I usually use the printer wirelessly but have used a USB connection at home with no problem.

Having had no luck with printing I downloaded new drivers from the Lexmark page, but all I could find was windows 8 (64bit) so I have downloaded that.

When I try to print (currently trying to print from an email) the status of the printer shows as ready, but nothing prints. The printer is on with the wifi showing connected in green.

If I click on 'find printer' from the print screen all it shows is my computer. If I click on control panel and network and devices, the printer is shown on there (with a green tick) If I go to look at devices via charms and hit print, it says 'you can only print from apps'.

I've looked on google and tried a few suggestions, re ports etc. Nothing seems to get this printer to work.

I'm beginning to lose the will to live

Can anyone help me with this please?

PS. I have just connected an old computer and that still prints ok,
but I do need this one to be able to print

  • Clearly not a printer fault if it works OK connected to another device. You say it doesn't work on wi-fi, so try it again using USB from your W8.1 device-that will rule out a driver issue if it then works.
But I'm guessing that you need to contact Lexmark support for advice on drivers for W8.1. Printer manufacturers do not support every older printer on new OS's.
