A question about : Probably a stupid question but......

If a holiday competition states it is for a family of four, is it ok for just a couple to go? Quite often I see a holiday comp I like the sound of but it says it's for a family. My kids are adults so any holiday I won would be just for hubby and me, so am I allowed to enter or not?

Apologies if this is a really silly question title=Embarrassment

  • this is often asked - firstly check if it's upto, if it is you should be fine - if it doesn't it depends on the promoter some will some won't allow you to go without (your own) children.
Not having young kids myself I rarely enter these as families could use them & secondly they often go to places that will be swarming with other peoples children
  • A very controversial subject on this forum and a question that has been asked many times before.
My personal opinion is why would you enter a competition for a family holiday if there are only 2 adults, there are plenty of adult only holiday comps available.
I think you are taking the chance of a holiday away from children who otherwise would not be able to have/afford one.
  • Yes I see your point. A lot of the family holidays wouldn't appeal to me anyway, it's just that occasionally there'll be one that sounds lovely. I noticed one earlier to Peru, with excursions to the ruins and Macchu Picchu, somewhere I've always longed to go, but it is for a family of four. I don't want to take the chance of a family holiday away from anyone.....but I would like to go too lol.
Hopefully, I'll win some money instead and take myself
  • I see 'family' holidays as discriminatory, against people with no (or even more!) kids.. is there such thing as a 2+2 nowadays?
  • It depends on the rules and where the competition came from . If it is something like the Funday Times and aimed at children then do not enter . Other competitions just read the rules and hope. I won a family holiday for my daughter to Hawaii from Tesco and there was no problem that they had no children to take.
  • i generally dont enter as theyre usually family oorientate but the peru one isnt so go for it
  • If it seems very family orientated I ignore it. Sometimes if I can't see why it would be aimed at families only or it says 'up to...' when mentioning kids, I'll tweet them to ask. Most reply and all have so far been very nice and said no prob and good luck. I wouldn't presume as wouldn't want to be disappointed.
