A question about : Possible Medical Discharge Advice

Hi there,

I have been in the Army for 4 years this coming January and for the last year and a half I have been on physio for compartment syndrome which is due to my bio mechanics in my legs and the way which I am shaped.

I have been to the doctors recently who wanted me to do a 3.2km tab with 15kg 2 days in a row to become Perm MLD. However, I have appealed this decision and I am going to a medical board in the next 2-6 weeks where I will try to get myself Perm MND. I don't want to do the tab because of the pain it causes me in my calfs, and I don't feel a year and a half of physio to then do this tab for the sake of it is worthwhile.

What is the likely hood that I will get Perm MND? I can't and wont do the tab for the sake of it, as the pain is dreadful. If I do get it, what sort of entitlements will I receive? Do I get a full resettlement, a payout or even a pension? Also, how long is the process to be medically discharged and is there a possibility to push it so I am out quicker?

I hope someone can give me some advice, and feel free to ask me any questions for information if it helps you get me a more direct answer. I am feeling quite lost at the moment and I want someone to help me understand everything.

Thank you,

  • Hi Urstuffplz1,
I have nothing to add to your post, though I am just saying that people have read your post, and I am sure someone will be along soon to reply.

  • I can only say in hubbies case the Medical board was the easy bit. They were nice and talked to him for ages. After he was discharged there has been not a jot of help from anyone.
You are not told until three weeks before your end date what your pension will be and in our case they lost the paperwork so was informed there was no pension. They did find the "medical discharge" so he has got his pension but you then go through the before 05 or after 05 new/old pension. No blame compensation etc it makes your head spin.
It's not easy and we are in the process of trying to get the British legion to help us but we are struggling to get hold of someone.
    Good luck
  • The tab is a functional test, often used to upgrade people. It also has the other side which is to downgrade people.
Be very careful! You may not get a P8 medical discharge, but a perminate downgrade may lead to the RECU process, P7 mnd may lead to PAP 10. Although my understanding is limited, if you fall below the recomended JMES for your branch/trade/cap badage then you can be administatively discharged.
If you go down the wrong route (including routes in the PAP 10 process) you may leave with no financle benefit! So be careful.
