A question about : Porridge telecom-anyone used them?

They provide a system where they enable someone using a pay card pin telephone (ie prisoner) to call mobiles for the same price as a landline. They give you a new landline number for the person to call but the call comes through on your mobile, making sure you don't miss an important call from the caller.
Does anyone know if this actually works? Is any good? Any problems with it etc? I would like to set it up for someone to call me but I'm really not sure..
Anyone??

  • Not used Porridge but have used https://www.localphone.com/call/united_kingdom who offer a similar sort of cheap callservice. You open a payg account and they point a geographical number at a nominated mobile. The caller pays the appropriate cost to call the eg 10p a minute from a pay card pin telephone and you only pay 1.8p a minute to receive the call.No connection charges or any other hidden charges.
Which is a lot cheaper then Porridges 10p a minute they charge to recieve the call.

  • Hello,
Did you find the best way for the prisoner to call you please?
I've found myself in the same really difficult situation and I want the calls to last for as long as possible.
    Thanks for your help.
