Hello kind helpers of the internet.

I would really like some advice on council tax. I was very silly and let it run as I wasn't in a position to pay it.

I am now earning a good wage, just as I started I got a letter from the bailiffs saying they will visit on the after the 21st of september which will be Monday.

I spoke to them on the telephone and they said I could send in income and expenditure and they would probably accept the offer. I did a detailed income and expenditure with haircuts etc and an offer of payment of Ј192 per month. The said this was unacceptable and they need Ј380 per month to clear the debt in the time allowed and then went on to say that I should stop hair cuts and stop paying my phone contract and other arrears (including SSE and credit cards) to pay this debt and if I did that I could afford the Ј380 per month. They also set this payment has been accepted and to make my first payment on the 2nd. If I don't further action will be taken.

I have replied graciously saying this is just not possible and that I am willing to up the Ј192 in December as my mrs goes back to work then.

I have just emailed the councillor asking for assistance and if the council will take back the debt.

I have a few questions.

Are they now not going to visit before the 2nd because of that payment plan, which gives me more time?

I read somewhere that because I have paid one of the debts off with them of Ј250. That I have now given them goods and they can now force there way into the house, is this true?

My plan was to pay the council anyway if they don't accept or the councillor can't do anything and just not let them in. I know my rights in that regard.

If they did, as I've had no money over the last few years I really don't own a lot of stuff. Everything that was of value is now broken such as my TV doesn't even switch on and has a faulty board. There is no way my assets are going to cover the debt. Will they even bother to take stuff if they do somehow get in?. I honestly doubt whether it would even cover there costs.

But as I have said I am now earning a good wage again and can afford to pay back 200

Further information can be provided, is there anything else I can do?

• Additional - Just spoken to Rossendales, they stated over the phone that the plan is in place and no further action will commence until the 02nd unless I don't pay what they have asked on that date which is Ј380. He did say that if I don't charges of Ј235.00 + 7.5% for the amount over Ј1500 will be applied to my account. Can they charge this just for a visit without getting into the house?
• The new fee structure means after giving notice of visiting, once they visit they can charge Ј235, this same fee covers levying goods/any further visits. No further charges after the Ј235 can be added unless they actually remove goods from the property.
