A question about : Pension Transfer from RAF to Police.

Hi all. I've had a look through a few on-line forums to find an answer to my question, but to no avail; so I wonder if anyone reading this may have the answer. I served in the RAF Regiment in the mid to late 80's for a total of 1717 days; I then joined the Metropolitan Police in February 1990. My question is this; how many of those 1717 days pensionable service can I transfer to my MPS pension? I've been told they're worth less than 300 days, but that seems rather low to me. Thanks in advance.

  • AIUI you cant transfer your RAF pension as you would have had to do it within 2 years of joining the Police.
If that's not the case then your 1717 days of military pension will buy you X days of police pension. The ratio is based on the differing benefits offered by the two schemes. Whilst the police pension is better than the, deferred, military pension only getting 300 days seems low. Who provided that number?
  • Thanks for the reply Andy L. I did transfer my RAF pension upon joining the police back in 1990 but I've only recently been quoted that figure by the police pension people. I've still got all the paperwork from when I signed up and transferred my RAF pension but none of it actually states how much it was worth. It's only now that I've got 5 years left to do (with the 300 days taken off) and I'm suffering the consequences of numerous injuries (all on duty) to my knees, that I'm keen to chase this up. Unfortunately I don't have any confidence in the police pension people as when I first made enquiries, (about a year ago) I was given a figure of less than 200 days. When I challenged that, I was told that yes, they had indeed made a mistake and the figure was revised to the 300 days; hence my lack of confidence in them!
