A question about : PC Problems?
This thread is for free online scanners, which run in your web browser - NOT installed software like Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky, AVG and so on. The online scanners are useful because certain infections can prevent resident anti-virus software installing or running correctly.
If you think you might have a virus problem and you either have no anti-virus protection or your own anti-virus wont run, click on any of the links below for a free online scan (connection to internet required):
Note: Some of these scanners use ActiveX and need to be opened in Internet Explorer to run correctly.

- frans post about 4 posts up covers the link to the FAQ article about anti-virus software ...
those who are not technically minded may get confused by you linking out to other software
as the first post states
"If you think you might have a virus problem and you either have no anti-virus protection or your own anti-virus wont run, click on any of the links below for a free online scan (connection to internet required):" - Online Kaspersky scanner: https://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
- Thanks meclive
I'll add that to the list in the OP.
TOG - You can do a free security check and virus scan using the Symantec link below:
https://security.symantec.com/sscv6/d...d=ie&venid=sym - Quite like this one - checked but couldn't see it on the list, It appears to work fine with Firefox as well.

Gives you a variety of options. - Here's a Free Scan site...
https://www.pandasoftware.com/products/ActiveScan.htm - There's a lot more to computer security than virus prevention. Anti-virus won't stop spyware, which can cause as much damage as a virus; you're just less likely to notice straight away. https://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm explains what you're dealing with.
There's also the problem of fake websites, I've not yet tried https://www.corestreet.com/spoofstick/ but it looks an interesting tool to stop you getting caught out by phishing sites.
I'm no expert but having seen a spyware bug jump into my computer, and spending several weeks getting rid of it and others of which I was unaware, I've found some useful and, I believe, reliable advice.
Before you start though, be aware that there's a lot of anti-spyware available that is either a money-making activity, or is actually spyware. https://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm lists dozens of questionable or downright malicious providers, including some with very similar names to those recommended below. It also has information about trustworthy sites. Please please check there before using anything you find using a search engine, or recommended by someone you don't know…you don't know me, do you?
You could start with https://aumha.org/a/noads.htm, or go straight to https://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm It's part of https://www.aumha.org/win5/, which is a site recommended by a techie at work who I trust completely.
Having cleaned up my system, I'm now updating and running at least once a week, the following free downloads:
CWShredder https://www.aumha.org/downloads/cwshredder.exe
Ad-Aware SE Personal https://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
SpyBot S&D https://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
IESpyAd2 https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm
MS AntiSpy https://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx
Spyware Blaster https://www.javacoolsoftware.com/index.html
I have also used HiJackThis https://www.aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe, which is great provided you follow the instructions very carefully. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/foru...howtutorial=42,
and https://aumha.org/a/hjttutor.php
Take advice from the Aumha forums about what to delete https://forum.aumha.org/index.php?c=12. (It's very easy to delete vital stuff…don't blame me if you mess up!)
I've got cookie blocker set to 'high' on the Privacy tab of Internet Properties in Control Panel, and I use Zone Alarm’s anti-virus stuff (It's well priced on Amazon) as well as the MS firewall.
Before switching to Zone Alarm I used their free firewall item:

and adjust the settings

I’ve pretty well stopped using MS Internet Explorer and now use Deepnet Explorer. https://www.deepnetexplorer.com/ It's nicer to use as each page has its own tab, and has a 'phishing' alarm.

Good Luck - sometimes a nasty virus or spyware can actually disable your anti-virus scanner thats installed on your computer, so if you are found to be infected, or you have loads of spyware, its always a good idea to ry an online virus scan to make sure your anti virus software is working as it should.
ps. please note, anti-virus software is one of a few thoings someone can do to protect their computers,
you also need firewall, unless you have windows firewall ( windows xp users)
you also need a spy removal tool like the guy above has listed
as well as an anti-virus program (i used to use Norton antivirus, but once they started to ask for payment for subscriptions, i switched to AVG antivirus - theres not a lot of difference.) - great list there
- Trend Micro's online scan Housecall removes viruses... Well 99% of the ones it detects anyway
