A question about : Paralympics

Hello, can anyone tell me how the paralympics will be different from the Olympics, apart from obviously the athletics have registered disabilities. I'm not a big fan of massive crowds so thinking I may try and get a ticket for this event instead? It would be good to see inside the Olympic Park, but will everything still be up and running - the events seem to be slightly different and I heard that they expect half as many visitors for the para game.
I personally think their achievements are all the greater.

Best answers:

  • Yes will be no different in essence
  • There are likely to be less spectators so yes it may be less crowded. Another thing that is different with the Paralympics is that many event tickets in the Olympic Park include a 'day pass' which give you access to any event within the park on the same day on a first come first served basis (the seats to the actual event you buy for are obviously guaranteed). The same applies to events at the Excel, I'm not sure about other venues.
Additionally, you will find that tickets are generally cheaper for the Paralympics than the Olympics, depending on the event and seats chosen.
  • i bought a day pass to excel on 3rd sept for Ј10
also going to the athletics on the 2nd bought these a couple of weeks ago i think they were Ј20
  • I have my tickets, going to see the athletics, but checkout the BBC website, they have an article on there today saying that many of the events are going to be sold out.
  • Just had a look at the London 2012 site and the athletics has only one session and available and the swimming none. So booking soon is definitely recommended - there must be loads of people like me who couldn't get Olympics tickets for these events but just want to see the venues.
  • Yes, the paralympics tickets do seem to be selling out too - brilliant news for them but not so great for me - I procrastinated for too long and the day I wanted has gone!
  • Yeah same here, just tried to get a ticket for the athletics but it won't let me, so i'm guessing it's a sell out - waited too long it would seem.
  • Yes, it's the same old now, trying to even get a ticket for the paralympics now. It offered me tickets for one session but it's footie which I really don't like.....)-: I would rather at least have tickets for something I'm interested in....hoping that maybe some more become available nearer the time....not that the ticketing website it likely to let me book them!!
Is it worth getting a ticket for something I don't want to see just to get into the park? I mean, it's all nice watching stuff on a big screen but what else is there to do in the park - without spending a fortune of course!?
  • We were lucky and managed to get tickets to the Paralympics atheletics finals for Ј5 each last week as we are seniors (only just 60!). We too feel that these events will be extra special and cant wait to be there and soak up the atmosphere.
  • Thanks, hope you are right, I would like to be at an inside event as don't trust the British weather, LOL!!
  • The Paralympics will be a massive sell out. If you can get tckets now then do so, don't wait. Any talk about stadiums being half full is nonsense. Everyone I know is going and others are already struggling to get tickets.
  • Over the weekend just gone, I bought 2 adult tickets and 1 childs ticket for the paralympic athletics on Friday 7th Sept for the grand total of Ј45.00.
Bargain in my eyes, my grandson and my wife and I, will love the experience.
I have also posted the following on another olympic thread
My plan is to drive down on the Thursday and stay overnight in a travelodge (or similar) and maybe leave the car in the travelodge car park all day on the Friday whilst we are in the Olympic park. I dont mind paying for the parking.
I have looked at 2 hotels so far....the Premier inn at Enfield (looks like plenty of parking there) and the Excel travelodge (not too sure re their parking arrangements, the website is quite vague).
I do realise that the Enfield one would involve a bit more travel than the Excel one.
    Anyone any better ideas?
    All suggestions gratefully received
  • Depends where you are travelling from but when travelling to London I have often stayed at Ibis Wembley which is easy to get to in the car, has car parking (which you have to pay for) and is right next to the train station or a walk up the road to the tube station so a couple of options for getting into central London easily. Usually very reasonably priced, not sure how this would compare during Paralympics.
  • If the Ibis isn't free, you could try the Crown Plaza at Hanger Lane, which is on the other end of the Central line. It has a carpark though I don't know whether you have to pay for it or not.
I've got tickets for swimming (didn't trust the weather!) and am so excited!
