A question about : Outdoorsy wedding venues in Yorkshire

I have been wedding planning for just over a week and already pulling my hair out.

I am looking for a outdoorsy type wedding venue - I am thinking barn, farm, that kind of thing. I want something a bit different - big wooden picnic tables, no chair covers... A bit rustic looking and something we can put our own stamp on.

We are based in East Yorks and I am really struggling to find something relatively close by.

So far I have emailed Danby Castle, which is absolutely beautiful but pricey, and York Maze, which looks fab but so far no reply and I am guessing it is going to be expensive too.

We don't have a budget in place yet but we don't want to spend a fortune.

Does anyone have any recommendations?? I am so bored of this already.

Best answers:

  • Just to say I went to a wedding at York Maze and it was fantastic, just as you describe so don't write it off yet.
Villa Farm just outside of York might also work? Admittedly the website isn't great but might be worth a drive out. Also I think the jolly days glamping site host weddings.
  • I've actually emailed Jollydays. Even better is that they have a new site opening nearer to us, so have emailed them too. No reply though, and still no reply from York Maze. Perhaps I am just impatient but the lack of replies make me wonder just how helpful they would be if we did decide to book.
  • Have you looked at wold top brewery in Humanby? I'm getting married there in August - the gardens are stunning!
  • Not heard of that one but I will have a look now.
Had a few replies to my emails. I cannot believe the prices some of these places charge for venue hire. How anyone can afford to get married amazes me!
  • Not sure how big of a venue you would be looking for, but we really liked Whinstone View: https://www.whinstoneview.com/Weddings.html
  • Skipbridge Country Weddings is absolutely beautiful, you can make it your day, your way. We had a kata from Papakata.
Highly recommended, our wedding day was exactly what we wanted.
  • Have you considered Falling Foss tearooms near Whitby?https://www.fallingfossteagarden.co.uk/weddings.html
  • Pleased you like it I went in the summer whilst on holiday and it's a lovely location. The waterfall is beautiful.
  • Hi there - there is a new venue near Driffield East Yorks which looks lovely.. Ten Trees Wansford (Sorry can't post link) I believe you pay for the site and then it's another company who supplies the marquee. I just worried too much about if the weather was bad!
