A question about : Offered free P&P, but buyer is wanting certain service..

Had an item on for Ј50 BIN and I was offering free uk P&P.

In the description AND postage section it stated that the postage would be a 48 hour courier.

Someone bought it and paid within a few minutes.. then messaged to tell me to send it RM Special Delivery TODAY.

I thanked them for prompt payment, but pointed out that my offer of free postage was for a 48 hour courier service and it will be sent out later today.

This wasn't good enough for them as they seemed to think that that free postage meant that the buyer could stipulate which service is used and again, insisted that I sent it RM SD.

So I priced it up and invited them to pay the extra Ј4 ish to upgrade to RMSD, but they declined.

Not that desperate for the Ј50 so half temtpted to cancel.

Best answers:

  • Sounds like you've been clear to me, and offered a solution - cancel & block - they'll soon learn not to be so demanding & downright rude!
What's so hard about a buyer asking first before pressing the buy button!
  • They are unreasonable and if this was a face to face transaction, there is no way in the world they would behave like this.
You know what ever you do, it is not going to end well, and I'm glad you didn't fold. Too many people on ebay give into blackmail, just to keep their 100% or whatever. If they get away with it, it just encourages them to try it again.
You're probably going to get a neg anyway, so just cancel it and stick two fingers up at them.
  • I would cancel it. A polite request is one thing but demand and refuse to pay the extra is not something i would tolerate.
If they are that demanding before you have sent it i dread to think what the next set of messages would be.
They waited until 7:30am and it didnt arrive so they had to goto work and have missed the delivery?
  • I've told them to shove it in the nicest possible way.

    Not allowed:
  • Demanding a change to the postage method or delivery location, other than those specified in the listing.
  • Report the buyer via the link on your seller dashboard, if you are lucky eBay will educate them.
I'd look to cancel, bad feedback is better than them messing around with a Ј50 item and sending it back damaged if they want to be petty.
