A question about : October 2015 Weddings

I've had a look around and couldn't find a thread dedicated to October 2015 brides and grooms, and since we've all got about a year to go, I thought it was time we had one.

So I'll start off: I'm getting married on the 29th October next year. So far we have a venue, reserved our date with the registrar, booked photographers, booked a band, booked most of the honeymoon, have someone who's agreed to make our cake and have someone who's agreed to do hair and makeup. OH has an idea of what suit he wants to wear, I have a very good idea of what dress I want, and we've decided on rings (just need to make an appointment with the designer to get them priced up).

At the moment I'm getting myself stressed over stationary. I'd love to make my own but I'm just not happy with anything I've designed so far and I can't find any invitations that I really love. It's kind of getting desperate now as we need to send out the save the dates asap as our wedding is a Thursday, so people need to start booking the time off work if they want to come!

Over to you guys, how are you getting on?

  • I think you're right, it's been a general 2015 thread I've been posting in!
We're getting married on 17 October 2015 and I still haven't got anything done We've literally just decided on a venue, but I'm waiting to get confirmation from the registry office before I book both the ceremony and reception venue. After that I hope to sort out the catering (already got a few quotes for that) and the photographer (again I already have someone in mind). I totally forgot about entertainment- should probably sort out a DJ too!
Hoping I can sort out a cake nearer the time as we want a fairly quirky one and we have yet to find anyone ideal. I'm going to try on dresses in January although I have a good idea of what I want. OH wants a tweed suit so it's just a case of him finding some suitable shops.
  • Ooooh thanks for the thread. We are getting married on 1st October 2015, so far we have booked the venue, the photographer, the transport, the band, catering, hair and make up and we have got our appointment for the cake tasting on 2nd December. Some of the honeymoon is booked but need to sort the rest of it out.
OH is having a tweed suit so we need to sort that out and I am currently looking for a dress I'm so fussy but I know what I want.
Save the date cards (that we have made) have been sent out, ours is also a Thursday which is why we sent them out early.
  • Yeah I thought I'd create a separate thread because October seemed to be very popular!

  • It sounds to me like you have found the one
Right that's it, I really need to start making appointments. I have only been to the wedding fairs and had a look at the dresses and I can honestly say I liked about 2 of them and these 2 were well out of our budget. I always thought I would be spoilt for choice but clearly it's not the case.
Good news; We have just booked our bagpipes I want a solo bagpipe (for the scottish side of my family) to play when the guests are arriving and for me to walk down the aisle, he has just informed me that he will learn the song we (I) want.
  • Ooooh, A shiny new thread. Thank you OP for starting one.
So, We have finally managed to make a start on preparing for our wedding on the 10th October 2015.
The offers we have received has been amazing. So list below is all things we have booked / arranged.
    Church
    Reception
    Cars
    Invitations
    Cake
    Photographer
I am a little worried about my wedding dress. As I have said from day one, I was buying one from Ebay because our budget is tight. However, I am now completely terrified from some of the horror stories I have been hearing & doubt very much I can afford bridal shop prices.
Where did you all find / get your dresses and how much was your budgets? x
  • My budget is Ј1500 but would really like to pay a lot less. Have you got any bridal factory outlets near where you live? I'm visiting here next week https://bridalfactoryoutlets.com/northwest/
Hopefully I will find something I like
  • That's brilliant news ruby_eskimo the dress you actually wanted with 20% off?? that's crazy there's no way you could refuse that. Will you have a fitting in a few months then?
I also had the Bolton one in mind to look at, which one would you recommend more? that's a brilliant price that your friend has paid. I would be made up with that!
  • So, a tree fell down in the road today (due to the winds) as the council were cutting it down I asked for a slice of it to put my wedding cake on. The guy cut me a perfect piece, I think I just need to store it somewhere dark now and wax or varnish it nearer the time.
  • blimey - I only got engaged this week and we would like to get married on 21s Oct next year which is our anniversary date from dating and getting engaged. No point me doing more than research as need to finish getting house ready to put on market to sell first and wait for it to sell as any plans are dependant on that and the money from sale. Including getting a marital home and paying for a wedding.
  • Eeek! We hit the "1 year to go" mark yesterday (so I can now say we have less than a year to go!). Ordered our wedding rings with the jeweller and they ended up almost 30% cheaper than on the high street. That's what happens when you buy direct from a designer I guess! OH has confirmed our booking with the registrar and we've booked our appointment to give notice in December. It's all really starting to come together now, although the bank balance is getting depleted at an alarming rate!
  • Really annoyed this week- I've found out that the pianist we wanted is unavailable (typically I wasn't told that until I'd paid the deposit!) and the hotel we had our heart set on is almost completely booked, with only the most expensive rooms remaining.
Has anyone sorted out their cake yet? I know it's supposed to be done around 6 months before, but I'm just trying to get quotes at the moment. I'm finding a lot of people simply don't respond so I can only assume they have no interest until nearer the time.
So annoying as there are literally no wedding cake makers in the town I'm getting married in, so my options are limited already!
