A question about : Ocado & paypal

Having a rubbish day!

On Wednesday I made an order & 'paid' by paypal, thinking I had added my credit card to the payment rather than my debit card.

Today I saw that the money has come out of my account through the debit card on my paypal account & I didn't have the funds to cover it.

I have now gone over my overdraft, will be charged & have no cash at all for the last day of half term. So upset.

Paypal said they can't help & they probably can't but Ocado say they can't but I know they CAN. I feel powerless just from making a little mistake. It's not like I wanted anything for free! I would have paid it that minute with my cc.

It gets worse because I can't ask my husband to add the extra money to my account because I should have money left & I haven't.

AND the calls to Ocado & Paypal were 0845 & 0800 so they have probably charged me a fortune.

The poor get poorer.

You seem to be moaning at PayPal and Ocado (and you OH) because YOU added the wrong card to pay for things.
How about just sell something for cash on a local facebook group?
Do you really need cash for half term? Plenty of free activities to keep kids amused!!
  • Can't you use your credit card to pay off your debit card overdraft, seeing as you were going to use the credit card in the first place?
  • Well to add a card to Paypal account you need to verify it and you didn't notice that it was the wrong card. So why it should be Ocado's or Paypal's problem ?
  • Everybody makes mistakes, at least you have learnt from it now. Don't beat yourself up about it. I'd take the cash out of on my credit card put it into my bank account if I was in the same position. (That's only if the interest/charge on cash withdrawal on the credit card is cheaper than an overdraft).
  • My mobile plan treats 0845 (and I think 0870) as part of my inclusive minutes, and 0800 (and 0500) are free.
    Giffgaff
  • No, it didn't prompt me for my password so I didn't link the wrong card, I was prepared to change the funding source on the next page but it just said order completed. On the wrong card.
Ocado could help because they could refund the money (they do it for bruised apples & bashed packaging) to a VERY regular customer & re-take the payment. That IS possible but they said no.
I'm not blaming anyone else (especially OH) for my mistake but it wasn't clear that I'd 'set up' a payment plan thing with Ocado & Paypal & I think that's unfair.
I used to work in customer service & I regularly did things like this for valued customers. Grrrr.
My mobile charges for 0800/85 etc numbers - I'll check out that app.
  • I suggest you stop shopping in places you cant afford. I believe lidl would be more your type of shop.
  • You're wrong. That bit didn't come up.
I had 'set up' a payment/billing agreement. I have no idea how:
'You've authorised use of your PayPal account for future payments to Ocado Retail Ltd.' It was absolutely not clear that this had happened. Also not clear was that I would not be able to change the card attached to paypal.
As you can see on your helpful screengrab, you can link your paypal to Ocado. When you do that (by accident), you don't get the option to 'change' the payment details.
Yeah, Lidl don't use paypal, I should be fine.
  • "the poor get poorer".
No, the stupid get more stupid.
It's no-one's fault but your own. It was your mistake and you need to accept responsibility instead of trying to blame others.
