A question about : NTL has taken full control of Virgin.net

This is just for information if you're on Virgin.net. A recent article on adslguide.org reports that NTL has acquired total control of Virgin.net (it used to own 49%). Users of Virgin.net will probably be aware that virgin.net uses the NTL backbone for their internet access anyway.

Article from adslguide.org here:

https://adslguide.org/newsarchive.asp?item=1885

On a press release (found on the NTL website) it says:

Quote:

Virgin Net will continue to trade under the Virgin name. Virgin Net will be run with the same management team alongside ntl’s residential division. Over time, ntl will look to further exploit Virgin.net’s national brand and ntl’s access platforms.

How this exploitation will affect its users is anyone's guess really! :P

Best answers:

  • eek....i am with virgin net......anybody got any idea whether they will do the unthinkable and push theprices up? ???
  • Personally I think that the Virgin.net prices are high enough already! I'm on their 'uncapped'* broadband service at just under Ј25 a month and would be more than happy to leave if they give me so much as an excuse to.
Having said that I'm happy with their service and speed so far.
I would hope that market competition will prevent them from contemplating any price rises. Don't quote me on that though!
    * They have a discretionary 'limit' of 20Gb/month for both uploads and downloads, according to their FAQ.
  • I've moved over to their Ј17.99 (3GB download limit) plan.
    I'll report on any glitches.
