A question about : Nokia 105 (unlocked) and 3 SIM

Hi,

I have bought a Nokia 105 for my son who is fast approaching 11. We wanted to get a basic phone for him to call and message us if needed (he starts secondary school this year).
I wanted a SIM PAYG that I could top up, when needed, and not one where I had to top up every 30 days. I found the perfect SIM (or, so I thought) with the 3 network. I put Ј10 on the SIM and have tried the phone out sending a couple of messages (worked ok in the house).
I have read though that he will struggle to get a signal due to the 3 SIM using 3G and the phone is 2G. What is that about?
Have I wasted my Ј10? I have seen another contract deal (E2Save) that comes with the same phone for 99p per month (it's a redemption deal).
Will things be ok with the Nokia 105 and the '3' SIM?

Best answers:

  • There should be no issue at all between a 2G handset and a 3G sim, in fact you would struggle in fact I no longer think it's possible to find only a 2G sim. I have used even 4G sims in really old and even newer 2G phones and it works perfectly.
  • That handset is 2G only. Three runs on 3G/4G only, so you need a 3G enabled handset to use any Three SIM.
So you need to upgrade the handset or use a different network. When you signed up to Three you would have seen notifications of the need for a 3G enabled handset.
PS: you'd do better to post this on the Mobiles board.
