A question about : How to fill out Crown insolvency forms

Victims of the Crown Currency Exchange Collapse will shortly receive important paperwork which must be filled in.

The firm's administrators MCR and SPW will automatically send statutory 'proof of debt' forms to all customers owed money over the next few days (see the MSE hires insolvency expert, Treasury rejects currency regulation and Crown Currency Exchange fails MSE news stories for more).

To help bust the jargon of the form, see our step-by-step instructions below where we've reproduced the key requirements in bold, with your required answer unbolded. Also note the form is generic so not all sections apply, meaning you can leave some blank.
Name of creditor. Your name.
Address of creditor for correspondence. Your address.
Total amount of claim, including any VAT and outstanding uncapitalised interest as at the date the company went into administration. How much in sterling you are owed.
Details of any documents by reference to which the debt can be substantiated. Note any evidence to prove you've paid, such as a receipt, an email confirmation or a bank statement. You don't need to send copies in but have them ready in case you're asked for them.
If the amount in interest includes outstanding uncapitalised interest please state amount. This is irrelevant in this case as no interest is due.
Particulars of how and when debt occurred. State when you paid for the currency and how you paid for it.
Particulars of any security held, the value of security and the date it was given. This is irrelevant as it refers to any item that belongs to the company that owes you money, which is not an issue in this case.
Particulars of any reservation if title claimed in respect of goods supplied to which the claim relates. Again, irrelevant.
Signature of creditor or person authorised to act on his behalf. Your signature.
What's the next step?

All creditors (those owed money) will receive a report within eight weeks outlining the administrator's findings at that point.

The administrator warns the entire process is likely to take over six months.

Who can victims contact for advice?

MCR has re-opened Crown's call centres for help. You can reach it on 0844 826 8659.

You can also email crowncurrencyexchange@mcr.uk.com. MCR stresses that as there are over 13,000 customers affected, an immediate response will not be possible.

Best answers:

  • I have two different versions of the Proof of Debt Form. The first came to my business address yesterday, the second came to my home email address which I used for my Mother's purchase. They differ in that the latter one seems to relate more individually to Crow Currency.
    It asks for:
    1. Name of Customer
    2. Customer Address
    3. Total amount of claim in sterling
    4. Please detail your contract number, order date and delivery date
Plase attach any confirmation emails received from the company
    5. Any other comments you feel are relevant to you claims
    6. Signature of creditor or person authorised.
This form is far easier than the first one so I am using it unless anyone knows that it is not a "PROPER FORM"?
  • Megabear2 - the form you are talking about is now on the MCR website but yesterday at least it was the form Guy is referring too. I guess they had problems with people understanding the form so have changed it to one easier to understand.
  • i made 2 seperate purchases first one to me at my address paid from my cheque account ....second to me at my address paid by my girlfriends cheque account
could anyone advise on the above ? 2 seperate forms or enter it all on one form
  • We told MCR their forms were too complicated on Wednesday, with too much jargon (one question I didn't understand myself - question 8). So they may have altered them to turn them into plain English, and to lose the irrelevant bits. I've asked for confirmation.
    Quote:
  • It maybe worth them putting the fax number, e-mail address and postal address to send these forms to on this thread also as I waited over 20mins this morning on the phone to get this information.
The address I got told to send them to was:
    MCR
    43-45 Portman Square
    London
    W1H 6LY
    Fax: 0207 487 7299
  • When asked whether the forms have been altered, a spokesman said: "Yes, it was altered to make it more user friendly. The first version was the statutory format. The revised form is designed to be more user friendly. Consumers should note that they do not need to complete the form again. If they submitted the original version that is fine their claim is now lodged."
  • so what do you think ...one form per purchase or fill all purchases out on one form?
  • One form per contract. That's the best way as each is a seperate claim.
  • Just got back from hols, ironically using euros from the last time I bought from Crown in August.
I'd ordered more to be delivered in late October.
Ordered late evening on 21st September but I hadn't transferred enough money to my account and so had to wait until the morning of the 23rd until the transfer was cleared so my bank could send them their money.
I received a courtesy check e-mail on the morning of 23rd from Nathan Oldfield, Online Account Manager, asking to confirm the fund transfer had been initiated. It had and I replied as such.
Courtesy call or panic check, making sure they had my money probably
Ironically as I wasn't in a rush for the euros, ha, I wanted to send a cheque. however my O.H. was worried about it getting lost in the post! I wish!!!!!
Just download the creditor form but I do not have a contract number, I'm sure I had one the last time.
