A question about : USD Money Order
Hi
Not strictly travel money but can't find a more approriate section.
I'm trying to complete a wholesale purchase from an American Company. They don't do Paypal,Credit Cards or IBAN tansfer. They want either a Money Order or Check (I know, spelling!).
They are a legit company that I can trust.
How do I go about purchasing a money order or writing a cheque in USD ?
Best answers:
- Most banks can get you a USD draft or cheque - but it may cost you Ј10-Ј20 in fees.
- Thanks. The company has sent me a S.W.I.F.T. address. Is that something that's easy to do? (I will phone my bank but just looking for heads up advice).
- They gave you a SWIFT address: does that mean they would accept a transfer into their bank account? (All bank accounts are identified by a code: different parts of the code are called IBAN and SWIFT.) If so, the most cost-effective way to make a transfer from one sterling bank account to a different dollar account is probably to use a money broker.
Otherwise, Citibank (UK) offers a dollar account with a check book, but do be aware of the regular account fees. - Yes, I think I'll be looking at Western Union to do a SWIFT transfer. My bank want Ј20 to do that
- How much would USD travellers cheques cost comparatively?
