A question about : Noddle sign-up fraud alert

Following a link from here I signed up to Noddles free credit report service with no problems however I then sent the link to my brother and told him to do it and when he tried to submit his card details for the proof of ID section an error came up on the screen saying an error had occurred and within minutes the HSBC were on the phone to him explaining that they have just deactivated his card due to a suspicious attempted transaction to his account by this company, obviously now I'm concerned too.

Has anyone else had this happen to them and why would it even happen anyway because I was under the impression that the card details are just for a security check and that they will not be taking any payment from that account to sign up to the service?

  • I have been using noddle since they started, no problems. they ask for card details. I believe it may be to verify you and may just access it to verify. They did not take any monies out of my card or my OH's card. As also quite a few friends who have enrolled.
  • Hmm I wonder if maybe they put some kind of phantom transaction through the card just to check the card is valid like 1p and instantly cancel it again before the transaction finalises and this is what HSBC picked up?
When I joined it was in the early hours of the morning when presumerbly their offices are shut but my brother did it this afternoon so maybe they do a physical check on applicants who sign up during office hours.
