A question about : New! Flight Delay and Cancellation Compensation Board

If you're claiming compensation for a Flight Delay or Cancellation and want to discuss it with other MoneySavers here's the place to do it.

Many thanks to Centipede100 for prompting the idea and cubegame for suggesting it on the Site Feedback board.

  • I would like to claim for a flight we made in 2008 which should have arrived back in the UK from Cuba during the morning of Christmas eve. However, it was delayed by nearly 10 hours and we therefore arrived back after all the shops had closed and were unable to do any food shopping. I have been told that I need the flight tickets and proof that I was on that flight. We booked through a First Choice travel agency in our town but that has now closed. What can I do to get proof? I don't think Tui will entertain a claim without this.
  • Hi,
We were delayed for more than 28 hours on a flight from Orlando to Gatwick last year. I wrote to complain to Virgin who have replied and are very apologetic but only offered a few airmiles and because my wife does not have an airmiles account she has nothing.
I think we qualify for compensation however, reading the guidance on here it says they are not liable if its a safety issue. How is a safety issue defined?
This was the reply from Virgin for why the flight was delayed.
"I'm sorry for the delay to your flight and for any inconvenience this may have caused. The disruption itself was due to an unexpected technical issue discovered shortly before our scheduled departure. The fault was part of a fire alert system which would notify our flight deck team of a fire within one of the aircrafts engines. I'm sure you can understand just how crucial this is and how important it is to be active and fully operative when flying. "
Do you think we still have a case for compensation?
    Thanks.
  • Yes. It doesn't take 28 hours to fix something like that. There's another reason that they haven't divulged. CAA would be your next best step, but they are currently taking 20 weeks to get you a substantial answer.
  • Hi!
I (&2 in my family) flew with Monarch airlines in December 2008 from Manchester to Goa. The flight was delayed by 8hrs and caused great disruption to our onward plans.
I would now like to claim compensation under the new ruling.
I joined flight-stat to trace the flight back but couldn't find any details.
How can I find out after all this time what my flight number was? I do have the departure time and arrival time as I write a travel journal, but I do not have the other details.
    Can anyone suggest anything please?
  • Listing this separately as its a different flight.
We had an emirates flight booked from Dubai to our local airport on Xmas day. I discovered that this flight was cancelled by Emirates due to 'under-booking'.
As per the airline's policy we were given a hotel overnight, however we have received no compensation whatsoever for not getting home on Xmas day!
As this is a non- EU airline is there anything we can do?
    Many thanks.
  • Whoops I think I first posted this in the wrong place. Sorry, I am still trying to find my way around the site.
In 2009 we were on a Jet2 flight from LBA. The holiday was booked through travel republic.
The plane, 2 hours into the flight, developed an engine problem and was was re-routed to make an unsheduled landing at Zagreb.
We were then stuck in that airport for 7 hours whilst they tried to find another plane for us...........Ours was deemed unusable.
We were fed and watered but arrived 7 hours late in Rhodes.
I have an e-mail from travel republic confirming the booking but haven't yet discovered if I have any more 'proof' of my flying on that day.
What do you think my chances are of compensation at this late date.

  • I am currently applying for compensation for a flight to Jamaica 2 years ago. I do not have boarding cards or tickets but have managed to get a copy of the itinerary from the travel agents. The package holiday was with Thomsons. Do I need the tickets and boarding cards to claim?
  • Hi, after some advice please. Jet2.com are refusing to compensate me for extra costs I incurred due to a late departure of there flight from manchester to split, croatia. Flight was delayed by one hour and then we set off, mid flight they announced tech difficulties and turned the flight back and landed at leeds, we then got another plane. We should have landed at 7.30pm but landed just after midnight meaning I had to pay Ј25 for late car hire collection and Ј60 for late apartment arrival. 5 letters to jet2 and lots of reply letters saying we aim to respond in 38
days, only one actual letter saying they apologise but will not be covering the incurred costs due to the techinical difficulties they faced and stated they are just a point to point airline. I have written back again but have since seen the newspaper articles re compensation, seen as this has been going on since sept 2012 and they have been so poor in getting back to me should I write asking for the 5 hours delayed over 1500 km Ј320 is this per person? The total flight cost for my husband, my 2 year old and myself was Ј450.
Looking forward to some advice.........its more the principal of the very poor customer service now.....if you try and speak to jet2 customer services on there 90p per minute phone number they just say that customer services dont have phone lines and you must email or write and all letters take well over a month to get a response.
  • Hi, was wondering if you could help me I was delayed on a flight from Glasgow to Bourgas on the 23 July 2007 for over 24 hours. I thought I was booked with Thomas Cook but they have no evidence of me being booked with them. They and Direct Holidays is who I would normally book with. Direct Holidays put me back to Thomas Cook but they are now saying Direct Holidays could have used a Monarch or Thomson flight - how can I check my flight number for this flight to see who I was with? Can anyone help? Thanks in advance for your assistance.
