A question about : New Dirty Tricks 2015

over the years as a super savvy shopper i have picked up on dirty little tricks that the big supermarkets get up to.

in the past the main culprit has been tesco's. with no end of dastardly ways to make you think you're getting a good deal when really you aren't!
i now rarely shop their because of it. probably the reason for their plummeting sales as others have cottoned on.

asda's a little better although they do tend to short stock special offers sometimes when they put product on offer. in some cases they take it off the shelves.

the latest one though really has got me fuming! title=Mad

Sainsburys.

they have just launched their new lower ordinary prices promotion on many products. which is actually a load of old cobblers!
now while some seem cheaper the majority actually work out dearer.

the main items seem to be within their meat section.

they seem to have scrapped they 3 for Ј10 offer. which has now been replaced with the lower ordinary price scheme.

but.

the packs are now either the same size/weight or less. plus the packs are actually dearer in price. a pack used to equate to Ј3.33 but now most are Ј3.60.

so in essence if you buy the usual three packs of meat you're actually spending 81p more than before.

seems small, but factor that in for the year and thats Ј40.

and i doubt they stopped at just the meat dept.

  • i thought these forums where created to assist people in ways saving money?
    my mistake!
  • You are not forced to buy three packs of meat. When it was 3 for Ј10, I saw customers buying 2 packs of the 3 for Ј10 and they were Ј4.50 each.
  • The Food Standards Agency has pressured manufacturers to downsize chocolate/filled bars and they agreed only if they could keep the same price.
BBC first reported this under last Labour govt for those automatically presuming this is a Coalition thing.
I'm not aware of any FSA stance on meat however.
Personally I don't buy multibuy deals unless I've had the product before.
I've gotten caught out by 3 for deals on organic meat which was horribly gristly. I won't buy organic meat from Tesco & Sainsbury's now.
  • I think it's good to remind ourselves and to advice any new money savers of the supermarket tricks every so often so I say thank you to the person who posted this
  • I have noticed a lot of price increases to compensate for these "new lower price" items. They really do think the public are stupid.
