  • Why not visit their respective websites and see which films most take your fancy.
US Netflix certainly has a better selection than both Netflix UK and Amazon, but that normally involves paying extra for a proxy.
  • thanks , how do you go about this proxy? i have heard people say about the american netflix but unsure how you go around doing it? thanks
  • Have you check you TV compatibility with Prime ?
Bought Chromecast Dongle some time back with a view to Cast Prime to my TV, to my amazement Prime was not compatible with TV.
Amazon was great and cancelled immediately.
  • I use Amazon Prime, quite good and quite effective.
  • It really depends on what series/films they have and what you like. Also device, last I saw, Prime video doesn't work on Chromecast although there is an android app for it now so that may not be too far away. Prime has the added benefit of next day delivery for free, so if you use amazon loads then it could be good. Netflix is pretty universal though.
It could also be worth looking at Now TV. It has a decent catalogue of films and as Christmas comes up then they will add Christmas collections (if they haven't already). Available as an app on Chromecast and a bunch of other things and also as a set top box which is pretty good for it's price. I never actually signed up to Now TV though, just used the free trial that came with it then sideloaded Plex onto it.
Again, this is all so dependent on what you like to watch. The best thing to do is to look at the content each has to offer.
  • I am currently using Netflix, it is a good price but it is sometimes frustrating as it only has a selection of the series of some of my favourite shows, like Modern Family. I might try out Amazon Prime for a month.
  • I've tried the free trials on both but haven't renewed either as I felt the choice wasn't great. After a month I was struggling to find things to watch.
Anywho. I found that Netflix was good for tv shows and Prime was better for movies. Just my opinion
  • I pay for Amazon Prime and my boyfriend pays for Netflix so I have the best of both worlds really.
However, I've found that we both tend to use Amazon Prime more than Netflix, especially for Christmas films, there seems to be hardly anything worth watching on Netflix. They are mostly unknown Christmas films, such as Silent Night, Deadly Night, compared to things like Arthur Christmas, Nativity 2 and Happy Feet 2.
Also, this weekend we decided to treat ourselves to Home Alone 1 & 2 on Prime. Yeah it was an extra cost, but it was so easy and really, for a one off, the extra charge didn't make much difference to us.
As others have said, it would probably be best to try them out first. From my experience, I have found Netflix to be more interested in just updating their content for their American users, whereas Amazon has been more forthcoming with new original content as well as "films-you-never-got-round-to-watching-when-they-came-out".
The obvious other advantage of Amazon is that they offer free next day delivery (worth the money alone, especially at this time of year), as well as the Kindle lending library. They are also giving Prime users the option of unlimited photo backups, which I have found to be really useful cause I have a 16GB iPhone, which gets full up pretty quickly.
  • I'm two weeks into the free trial of Amazon Prime. We only got it because my partner wanted to watch the 3rd series of Ripper Street. It's ok, but the selection of films seems a bit poor to me, as they don't seen to have many of the type we like and don't already have on DVD. There's not really much new stuff.
I wonder, can any subscribers tell me, does the free trial give you access to everything, or does more become available once you start to pay?
  • I've got both, hardly ever use the prime video though TBH. There's a lot of content overlap, and far more content on Netflix.
The profile thing on netflix is useful too.
  • Well, having tried both, we've decided to stick with Netflix and forget Amazon Prime. Both services have their limitations, such as only showing thr first couple of series of some shows, but i think Netflix has a better selection of films and foreign tv series.
