A question about : Name this tree
Hi folks, can anyone name this tree for me please. Comes out in red berries during winter[IMG][/IMG]
Best answers:
- Hmmmm, difficult from that one. Is it thorny?
- I don't see many leaves.
Maybe a hawthorn? - Would normally think rowan/mountain ash but berries have fallen by now. Can you do a close up of a branch?
- It appears to be twice the height of the house behind it which is much too tall for a hawthorn or rowan. My best bet is that it is a female Igiri tree. From the various photographs and descriptions of this tree online it seems to fit the bill.
- Jessica? that's a nice name, or maybe Richard if it is a boy tree?
- A Cotoneaster, maybe?
Maybe you could get the bird who lives in the nest to Tweet something about it...? - arbrighton. Your garage will be at most 12 foot high. The tree in the photograph provided is around 30 foot tall. I doubt very much that is a hawthorn.
- The leaves are wrong for a hawthorn. Clicking on the picture and zooming in reveals a few leaves on it, and they are the wrong shape.
- It's pretty certain that it's a cotoneaster, possibly watereri 'Cornubia.' They can grow to around 6metres.
Mine are usually stripped by redwings around Christmas time, but this has been a mild winter....so far.
