A question about : nabru sofa beds

Hi, just about to move into my first house. Was wondering if anyone had used nabru and could tell me if they are any good? Thanks

Best answers:

  • Ive recently ordered one of these.... coming at start of September. So I'll post back. I'd recommend getting the fabric swatches....when I got them I found they were quite different to how they looked online.
  • Hi, thanks for the reply. We have some fabric samples was just curious as to how comfortable it would be. How long do they take to deliver?
  • It took nearly 3 weeks. I dont recommend the sofa bed, it's really uncomfortable, and sags in the middle.
The sofa looks nice, simple unfussy shape (Sui), it took us a couple of hours to put together, but it feels quite good to know what's in it and how it's put together. The seats are quite hard, because they are essentially a piece of wood slotted into a deep cushion, but actually I prefer it like that. The faux leather we choose does look like it will stand up to the job. Anyway, better than any Argos sofa experiences we've had, and I guess good for the money ( Ј279 without the sofa bed bit), plus we could actually fit it in the lift and into our flat which was the original reason for buying from Nabru.
My 6 year old twins are giving it a battering as I type, so it will either sink or swim lol, I dont know yet, but so far so good. Ultimately you get what you pay for, but Im pleased with it, apart from the sofa bed bit.
  • chimmy, how u finding your sofa?
I have just bought one and heres my review: had it about 2mmonths now:
Yeh its great I really love it! Apart from the cat
hairs lol! My old sofa was light coloured so didnt show up the hairs!
I think I paid in total 600 ish quid for a massive 4 seater sofa with high narrow arms, and 4 big cushions in different materials and colours. Looks lovely. Was a !!!!!! putting it together and took me about 4 hours on my own. It arrives oin a big pallet of a truck, delivery driver was very friendly and helpful.
I went for the "soft seat option" basically means that you get a webbed cutout under the cushion that gives it a more springy step. Initially when I got it, the cushions were very firm and the company told me that these soften up over a few months use. But they never lose their shape, Its great because I dont have to fluff and plump cushions up all the time. Just give it a weekly hoover with the pipe to get rid of cat hairs.
I requested some fabric samples before hand so I could pick my fabric, i went for a hard wearing fabric called MAX in mocha colour.
I also went for the storage trays, but these are the only let down, i was expecting to have drawers that were easily accessible in the base but in reality the trays are only a piece of square wood, cut out with little feet underneat that go inside the bottom of the sofa loose on the floor. So really the storage trays dont serve any purpose as you can still store stuff iunside without them, however they would be on the floor rather than raised off them on a loose piece of wood about 2cms. Getting into the trays you have to lift the seat cushion off, which is rather dififcult as they are so heavy, so I have take to storing things such as blankets in them and stuff I dont use often so as not having to go into it daily. This option could be left out though as you can store things in it without the trays. The trays just give it a floor but are not fixed in anyway to the sofa.
I would highly reccomend these sofas. For the money, they look very proffesional and are certainly much stronger than a normal DFS sofa or the alike due to the structure and how these fit together. They are very solid pieces.
I got a foot stool also because I thought they were very good value and they are because it also comes in as a 2nd seat when needed. This all came into the total of Ј600 all in!
  • Here is a summary of our dealings with Nabru for anyone who is interested in buying one
    1. We found their website and was worried about the "flat pack sofa" issue so wanted to go and see them for ourselves.
    2. We rang them and was told someone would ring back to confirm their showroom would be open on a Sunday as we were travelling 150 miles to see them and wthin 15 minutes a lady did so off we went the next day.
    3. We liked what we saw and along with3 or 4 other people there at the time placed an order for a 4 metre by 3 metre corner set with 4 extra cushions and a footstool for about Ј1200.00 inc V.A.T
    4. We were given a time of about 3-4 weeks for delivery but it arrived 13 days later after a confirming phone call from the couriers.
    5. It arrived all shrinkwrapped on a metre square pallet and about 8 foot high and once all un-packed and layed out looked pretty daunting even though i'm a competant D.I.Yer....one big pile of wood , foam, and material etc.....
    6. The whole thing took about 4 hours to put together but once you suss out how it goes , it is pretty easy, if not, fool proof.
7.The only problem we had was that Nabru sent 2 right hand arms instead of 1 left / 1 right, oh no , we thought.
    8. I called Nabru at 10.00a.m Monday and by 10.00a.m Tuesday a new arm had arrived.
9.The result is we have a massive, very comfy ,well made , well designed corner sofa which is actually more comfortable than the Ј3000.00 three piece in our lounge. Our conservatory is now our new lounge!
10 We really tried to find fault with Nabru all along but to be honest , we could not. From sale right to the aftercare in replacing the arm next day we have been impressed and so highly recommend them as we feel we have got something we feel would have been a lot more money elsewhere.
  • They are great aint they! And the cushions keep their shape so your not forever plumping!
Any chance you can up some pictures?
  • We looked at nabru sofas in 2005 as we couldn't find a decent sofa to get up our atair and didn't fancy taking the windows out of our new house to get to the second floor lounge.
We happened to be in London for a friends birthday so called into their showroom. Loved the sofas and it solved all our sofa problems, with the added bonus of being able to get a corner option.
We jokingly enquired about the chances of getting it in time for Christmas as it was Sat 17th December. The manager/owner said that would be fine as he was going home for Christmas and would just nip 1 1/2 hours further up the road to drop it off for us personally on Christmas Eve! Totally stunned doesn't come close!
Obviously the service is amazing but the quality is great too. Our sofa is now nearly 4 years old and is still as good as new, despite taking a twin portion of baby sick, spilt baby food and mucky toddler hands. We looked at replacing the covers but thought we'd try giving them a wash first and see how that went and they washed brilliantly so no need for new covers. We replaced the cushions in the summer but at only Ј15 for an enormous cushion why not (our neighbours were ordering a sofa like ours so we added our cushions to our order)
We are now ina position to be ordering another sofa for the playroom, we don't need a modular sofa but due to our previous experience with Nabru we couldn't not order with them!
I am not sure if my link to pics will work but i will give it a try

  • We bought one back in July 09. It is a 4 seated corner sofa, beige MAX cover. Really impressed with quality and it's sturdiness, much better quality than anything similar we looked at on the high street and also cheaper than anything we looked at on high street. Infact my mum is now ordering a sofa and armchair from them as she was also impressed with our sofa.
  • ive just redecorated and odered a matching set of armchairs to go with my sofa I bought last year! Looks great!
  • Was looking at these but several of the review I found online put me off. Sounds like they might be find for a sofa you don't use that often but not for a main room?

  • Ive had mine 2.5 yrs and it still looks as good as new. It doesnt creak at all... just make sure you put all the pieces together and firmly in their places. My dealings with this company have always been good and on my 2nd order they threw a few cushions in for free.

THese sofas are stronger than any other sofa I have had, previous one was an Ikea sofa which put up with all sorts, people jumping over them etc.
They are comfy and look great.
The reason they are cheaper is because they are transporting flat packed, so they dont have the costs involved of putting a sofa together etc and then transporting it.
The quality of build though is 100 times more than a ready built sofa.
  • i got my sofa yesterday i went for the atto 3 + 4 corner sofa and it cost Ј785 we ordered the sample fabrics first which arrived the very next day ! super .. we decided to go for the max in mink.
it was delivered 2 days later on a pallet shrink wrapped and the lorry driver helped unload the bits into my house which was good of him
when i had all the bits in the front room i sort ov thought OMG wat have i done as there was so many pieces of mdf and to be honest it looked tacky however the cusions all looked fab so we decided to go ahead and build the thing. building it was fairly easy if your good at that sort of thing however it would have made it even better if the pieces had of been labelled as matching the bits to the drawings was a little difficault when they all look pretty similar, however it all went together and took around 2 1/1 hrs between 2 ppl and i have to say it didnt look tacky any more it looked amazing!
the way it all fits is fantastic and id say the main tip is if it doesnt just simply slot in its not the right piece as evrythin fits like a glove. the structure is so sturdy and strong im sure u could get an elephant to sit on it.
I wont lie as it is fiddly getting the fabrics to be perfect and you sort of become ocd whilst doing this!
Now its got pride of place in my living room i cant belive it looks so good its so comfortable too , i went for the softer seating option it is quite firm but nabru say it should soften over a few weeks to be just right.
I honestly cannot fault this company their customer service was fantastic when i called and thier correspondence has been great all the way through i dont know why people would want to spend 2 -3 k in dfs or the likes when these seem much stronger once built and so stylish.
If i had any faults to pik there would only be 2 :
scotch gaurd is basically, they send the cans of spray for you to do yourself , which for me is a pain as i have a 6 month old baby in the house and you need to vent the area for 12 hrs ...nearly impossible for me !
the parts are not labelled like abc and so on , this would make it much simpler to build and problay half the time too !
I will definately use them again in the future and will never go to a "normal" sofa shop again ever
    LONG LIVE NABRU !!!
  • I agree on the scotch guard this should be done at the factory and impregnated as the spray is not very good I dont find.
  • Seeing the reviews on here made me go ahead and by my sofa, which I love. However if I'd known it would take me 8 hours (9 hours with breaks included!) to put it together I'm not so sure I would have purchased it!
The instructions really are pretty hopeless, and I cannot believe the parts arrive unlabelled. I spent two hours recognising (this is tricky in it self) and meticulously labelling each part as I unloaded them from the pallet. I followed the instructions, again meticulously, and although the sofa looks good if you look closer you can see that the backs dont fit together properly and the foam shows in small areas where it was impossible to stretch the fabric any further. If you dont mind this and if you have time to put it together (hopefully with a friend who will patiently help you without getting frustrated and ending in an argument!) then go ahead and buy, they are very well priced and once put together good quality - although moving house might be a problem as they are very heavy and the sofa will need to be dismantled some what-make sure you have the sofa in its correct place before building! I opted to have both hard and soft seating - however the instructions don't cover this, and I still havent summed up the energy to work out exactly how this is meant to work.
Final words, make sure you can leave the sofa outside until you have time to build the sofa (it's unlikely you will get the pallet through the door and the delivery guy won't be able to help you), that you have at least 8 hours and that you have plenty of space to distibute all the parts and preferably no other people around (especially not children - I came away with a couple of small injuries!). Otherwise it will be extremely stressful!
  • I read the reviews, I ordered samples and we designed our own corner suite to be the main feature in our newly built conservatory. It arrived as promised in a few days the driver being very helpful and leaving it directly adjacent to the rear conservatory doors. I tend to agree with gstephens, the instructions leave a lot to be desired, I never did figure hard and soft seating so opted for just the soft but pushing the frames into the cushions left me feeling this was not how it was meant to fit. I persevered and likewise the fabric didn’t stretch enough to entirely cover the wood. The cushions had stray fibres that needed cutting and wood dust from the MDF spread everywhere but in a day by myself I had it built and looking pretty good. Overall the construction is very rugged, being solid three quarter MDF I had no doubts about its durability; I found it very comfortable and easy to relax on. However the wife never got over the initial frustrations and was never settled or comfortable with it so reluctantly I spoke to Nabru and true to their word they agreed to take it all back. The wife ordered a corner unit from DFS costing over twice the price with a 6 week delivery date and I dismantled and palletised the suite in just over an hour, it was collected the next day and within a week I was refunded. Nabru are good to their word, at no stage was I pressured to keep it and I now have total confidence in them, enough to order a sofa bed later in the year.
  • 9 hours to construct??? I am thinking you are not the best with your hands. I bought my sofa in 2006 (1.5 hours to construct) and it is still going strong. I recently noticed that fabric had been a little damaged and called NABRU to see if it could be replaced. I was advised that the fabric was no longer available but he asked for me to send it back so that he could check in the warehouse for old material. Unfortunately no fabric could be located so he called me to suggest that his sewing team could take a section from the rear and do a repair. This was done and I received it back within in a few days - all for free!!!!!
    Excellent service all round
  • Had my Nabru Corner Sofa for 4 months and absolutely love it, best thing I ever did was buy it. I was abit sceptical as they just seemed too good to be true and I did alot of research before I even thought about ordering a sofa. Designed a corner sofa in colours and fabric I wanted and just fell in love with it. I rang Nabru first to speak to someone just to make sure they were actually real lol. I ordered the sofa in the end and could not believe how quick the delivery date was. Ordered it on the Thursday, it came the following Tuesday!! Came on a pallet as descirbed and did not look like a sofa. Took me and my husband about 2 hours to build, do think they do need to label the parts. Cushions are so comfortable and I love the fabric. Very durable for my 3 children. Havent dealt with customer service as of yet for anything but I dont expect to for a long time to come. Deffinately recommend this company, absolute bargain and as I said best thing I ever bought for our house
  • I have been looking at this company and have had the fabric samples too.
I know that it says and reviewers say that its strong, but some of my family members are rather chunky/obese etc and I am worried that when they throw themselves onto the sofa, the MDF will crack..... Like my current, old MFI sofa.
