Hello folks. I'm very chuffed to be able to say that starting in December I will have my own TV series on ITV1. It's called Make Me Rich. The aim is to save people as much money as possible in a day. (see my blog about the day I found out)

Update Note: Filming has finished now so there are no families needed (unless a second series is commissioned of course!)

Are you willing to have your finances looked at on the TV?

If so then perhaps you could be one of the Money Saving Makeover participants. However, if you've been a site user for a while, and already travelled down the MoneySaving road, then it isn't for you. We're looking for complete novices and newbies, so perhaps its a friend or family member who's never really looked at saving money and being a better consumer.

If you know someone or you yourself are a candidate for a Money Saving Makeover then please contact, Rebecca Ibbotson, - rebeccai@uniquecomms.com or 0161 874 5723 (x244)

More details on the show.

The following is the press release from ITV

MAKE ME RICH – NEW ITV DAYTIME SHOW

The everyday finances of ordinary people are set to be overhauled and reinvigorated by Make Me Rich, an exciting, enlightening and inspirational new money show for ITV daytime.

The series isn’t about cutting back - it’s about enabling people to take on companies, find the top deals, and play the system helping them to potentially release thousands of pounds each year – enough for the purchase of their dreams: a luxury family holiday, brand new car or extensive home improvements.

Each programme in this brand new series focuses on a family or working couple as they come face to face with their finances and daily spending, and challenge the programme’s money maestro to make them rich.

The popular money saving expert, Martin Lewis, will then change the lives of Make Me Rich’s contributors by giving them a comprehensive money saving makeover.

“By just devoting one day to sorting out their finance they could increase their income by thousands of pounds a year – making it the best paid working day of their lives

Martin will give straight talking financial know-how on everyday money issues that affect everyone, using clear and clever graphics to bring his tips to life. With a little savvy shopping around he will uncover thousands of pounds of savings that would otherwise have gone into the coffers of the bank or building society, or have been swallowed up by mobile phone suppliers or water companies.

The aim of the series is to help make families more aware of the best financial products on the market and also of their own monetary situation. Instead of focusing on the misery of shopaholics and runaway debt like other money formats, Make Me Rich will reveal how ordinary people have the potential to make extraordinary savings.

The series gets right into the heart of each family and reveals the internal tensions as they come face to face with their spending habits. From credit cards to contact lenses, insurance to investments and from e-bay to electrical goods, thousands of pounds can be saved before any real belt tightening needs to happen.

Nick Thorogood, editor of daytime at ITV says: “The message of this programme is that it’s becoming a shrewd and knowledgeable consumer that makes you richer – not cutting up the credit cards. Martin’s money makeovers show families how to get an effective 20% pay rise by ditching their disastrous spending habits and beating the system - with tricks, tactics and financial nous.

“The series is about making life changing savings without drastically changing a family’s lifestyle ’cutting bills without cutting back. Why should you watch this show? Give Martin just one day of your time and he will increase your income by 20%”

Make Me Rich is produced by Manchester based independent Unique Factuals, for ITV. The executive producer is Cat Lewis and the Series Producer is Debra Prinselaar.

  • CONGRATULATIONS MARTIN!!
  • well done martin ... you deserve to be well chuffed !! ... from how it reads it's going to be really good and get into all the nitty gritty about the loads of areas that savings can be made.
"bank of mum and dad" has been the latest major letdown .. content really is rubbish.... same old script every week glossing over massive numbers giving the impression that they can easily disappear after a few days of a parent nagging..... and doesn't get into the reality and 101 ways of actually what to do to save money
    good on you martin !!
  • Well done Martin. Glad it's not going to be one of those usual programmes of 'lets be really patronising and show how awful you are, but not really tell you how we've done it'...... it actually sounds like it's going to be useful for the people who are watching it as well..
Really chuffed for you, and of course if you need a stylist, make up artist, or bag carrier, or personal assistant or like 'Location, Location, Location' a right hand woman like Kirsty, then let me know - he he he he he!

  • mmnn... further thought ..... title "make me rich" might be a bit over the top .. and a bit too bullish ... ??

  • pennymakespounds if you read the blog - you'll see the title isn't mine....
  • thanks martin .. just read about it ...understand fully.... wondered what "blog" was all about .. now i know .
really is great for you to get a series ... let's hope for even more .
There's such a massive need for "teaching" people about getting the very best out of every Јpound ... i know just trying to bring up 2 teenagers who think money just grows on trees and will never have a serious conversation and get to grips with the realities.
Should be taught at senior school .. jamie on food ... martin on money !! .. i'm very serious ... what good has physics and geography done for my kids ?? !!!
Need to be learning about realities of life !
ps.. i've just had the Ј60 and 3 points from a camera at midnight on long country strech of the A1 .. doing 80. no justice.
  • Congratulations, all your hard work has paid off Martin. I am sad that I cannot be a contender on your show as I am quite aware of the tricks and methods that MoneySavingExpert has endoctrinated me with and its continual reference keeps me up to date on a regular basis.
    Regards,
    Martin
