A question about : My cat

My cat is getting fat, what should I do?

Best answers:

  • Our Oscar started putting on weight and last year the vet told us off for not regulating his feeding. He only eats a mix of dried food ... Purina One and Sensitivity Control but we hadn't read the recommended daily allowance on the packs. We were simply refilling his bowl on demand.
What we did was buy a set of food scales from Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...rch_detailpage and we pre-measure and store his daily allowances in Tupperware tubs. The allowance is actually a pale shadow of what we had been giving him.
He took a little while to understand that he wasn't going to get more every time he stood by his bowl but it's gradually sinking in and he's much more sylph-like now which will hopefully prevent the onset of diabetes and other ailments when he gets older.
The problem remains that neighbours put out food and you can't legislate for that.
  • Maybe could get one of these if the cat can be trusted not to eat it.

  • That is one greedy hamster!
  • My eldest cat is fat, I try to be strict with his biscuits but I also have another cat and the fat one eats all the biscuits before the other gets a look in! He is a greedy so and so. He is nearly 11 so I need to be stricter with him
