A question about : Music magpie and the like for selling cds, dvds etc

Hi there

Anyone any experience with these sorts of companies?

I normally use ebay but am thinking for a 'one shop stop' to get rid of my and my other halfs stuff it may be a good way.

Be grateful if anyone has experience of these or their competitors and have a feeling which they prefer.

Regards

  • Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. • I joined music magpie the other day and entered the bar codes for a load of games my OH and Son dont really play any more.
The games were all for the xbox 360 , all in playable order and were all reasonably recent games.
Music magpie offered me just Ј65 for them which i thought was way too low considering there were approx 20 games!
I decided i wasnt going to send the games to them.
On reading their terms and conditions though i did notice that one of the conditions is that if they - musicmagpie- feel that any game you send to them is not in "perfect" order they reserve the right to with hold payment for that particular game plus they dont return the game to you !!!!
Whats to stop them saying that a few of each bundle of games they receive from the public are in less that perfect order ? To me they could just use that as a way to get out of paying you !
  • It's very useful as a way to get rid of any low-value CDs, DVDs & Games, ones which go for mere pennies on Amazon Marketplace. You might only get 30p for them, but 30p is better than nothing.
  • Theres plenty of alternatives- the high street where they cant just keep your game if it doesnt meet their standards but the prices are poor unless you are trading them in..
Also some of the other sites online have the terms similar to musicmagpie
I use tradeyourgames.co.uk more often than not - on the instance where the game was considered to be scratched, they contacted me and asked whether i wanted it recycling or sent back at the cost of postage.. happy either way..
  • Great response so far - are there any other music cd companies out there that are 'better'?
  • There was a previous thread on here about Magpie where some of us made alternative suggestions:

  • Check your high street to see if you have got a Cash Converters/Cash Generators which takes CDs, and ask in there how much they will pay to take your pile of games, cds, dvds off your hands.
  • Ive used them for 3 quite large transactions, all went smoothly, no rejects, paid within a reasonable time and the collection service was good.
Its an easy service for those who havent got the time/inclination to individually ebay or trade in more traditional ways but it may not get you as good a price.
  • Many thanks all - went for these in the end - the majority of cds went for 20p but one went for over a pound and another for over two pounds.
