  • On 28th April 2014, their 12 month line rental was Ј126 per year. On 30th November 2014, after going up 3 times in 7 months, it will be Ј180 per year. How much will it be by 28th April 2015 I wonder? Quite a bill shock for some when it comes I imagine!
  • I don't think it comes as any surprise really, when Talk Talk raised their line rental saver it was only a matter of when not if normal line rental would also rise.
funny thing is I switched to talk talk just over a month ago
with this news I think I be jumping ship, as to be one of the shortest contracts ive had lol. oh well looks like I be looking at the cheaper providers in the coming days
just need to wait for the notification to be sent to me so I can give my 30 days notice to leave free of charges
  • This is getting ridiculous, isn't it? There's a roundabout of increases going on here, with TalkTalk, BT, Sky and all the others announcing increases every few weeks. One does it, then the rest follow, and then it starts all over again.
My guess is that there's an informal (and illegal) cartel giving rise to all these increases, with the result that there's no real competition any more. Ofcom won't find any evidence of a cartel (because Ofcom is ineffective and useless) but it's looking very much like there is one.
  • to be honest, while its not great companys increasing prices, there is an upside to it because ...
1/you can leave free of charge
2/ look for a better deal and get in most cases Ј100 for switching with quidco or topcashback, which in effect probably pays for your broadband for the year
    their loss our gain
  • You can't leave if you signed up to line rental saver.. I signed up and prepaid 12 months upfront in August... If I leave they won't refund outstanding unused months? I need their Anytime Calls Boost so face price hikes... Thankyou TalkTalk
  • I have the talktalk plus package [TV Broadband and phone] which included a free YouView box. Can anyone advise please if this package will increase, and if so will I have to return the YouView box if I cancel. ?
    Thanks
  • If I have already paid the value line rental for October 2014 - 2015, I won't be stung will I, until next year?
  • yup I switch every year with cashback, don't see the point in staying with same company year on year when u can get a better overall deal with cashback included
  • I agreed a new deal with them for 18 mnths, are they entitled to increase the rental regardless of the contract? Paying monthly
  • they can increase anytime they like if they wish, they already raised value line rental 3 times this year now.
you have a choice once u receive notification of their increases by letter or email to leave free of charge or continue with them.
  • Would it not be fairer if Ofcom simply refused to allow telecoms companies to increase their charges to customers during their initial contract period e.g. 18 months? If I agree a monthly price of ЈX for 18 months, I don't expect that to go up a few weeks later. Come on Ofcom, get your act together.
  • Unbelievable increase on line rental! I use a company that effectively re-sell talktalk line rental and pay just Ј15.30/mth (including free evening and weekend calls and no min contract length)! In fact, it's only 27p per month more than if I was to pay 12 months line rental up front with talktalk. No idea how talktalk can justify this.
  • Seems very strange the massive price rises in landline telecoms given I don't suppose costs have changed. I think it is a sector ripe for a full monopolies investigation.
  • Its down to BT, BT are undertaking a massive fibre rollout (in my opinion to counter cable and make us keep the pointless landline) and have increased the line rental to cover this, all the other ISPs lease the line from BT so their costs will have increased too
  • Sneaky Talk Talk they have also reduced speedy payment discount from 15% to 10% from 1st Nov onwards.
