  • 29p is 30p to much in my books
  • 29p is a bargin price so why not also buy Rage Against the Machine whilst your at it ;-)!
  • Well apparently anyone buying it at 29p, regardless of where it's from, won't be contributing to the top 40 singles chart so carry on buying it at 29p! Then go and buy a decent song for over 40p, such as Rage Against the Machine's Killing in the Name Of, or even better everyone buy Don't Stop Believing by Journey, would be awesome to have that at no. 1 for xmas!
Apparently anything under 40p doesn't count towards the charts. Have a looksie - https://www.theofficialcharts.com/doc...ust%202009.pdf

  • I think the news article should read:
MSE News: How NOT to buy Joe McElderry's X Factor single for 29p but buy RAGE instead
  • 29p is just not worth it for Joe or X-Factor
They'll be giving them away come end of week
  • This won't count on the commerical radio chart show (Big Top 40 Show) as for a song to qualify you have to download it from iTunes or from there website www.bigtop40.com
But, it will count for Radio 1.
  • If the rules state they just have to pass on enough money rather than sell it at 40p, then someone could just subsidise the purchase when paying the company. Hmm, I wonder who could have the money to do that...
Anyway, I'm with the "29p is 29p too much" brigade, though if lots of people want to buy it for 29p and not have it count, I'm all for it
  • Just buy Rage Against the Machine instead...
  • Quite a few contenders for this years Christmas number 1, according to this site, but I think it's a 2 horse race with Joe and the Facebook campaign for Rage Against The Machine.
We'll find out on Sunday I suppose, but I have to say I don't like either of em.
  • PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't put money in Simon Cowell's pocket, regardless of whether it's 29p or Ј29K.
I'm fed up of puppets getting to Number #1. It's about time that the Christmas #1 had an element of musicianship again (like somebody who actually knows how to play a guitar would be a good start!!).
Regardless of whether or not you like Rage Against The Machine, at least they can play their instruments.
Given that there's a special episode of Top Of The Pops on Christmas Day, it would be FANTASTIC to see Rage Against The Machine at Number #1 (even if the BBC will play about 20 seconds of it and have a full live performance by Joe McWhatshisname).
I love the fact that somebody's taken the time and trouble to set up a facebook forum to boycott X-Factor - it will be truly refreshing NOT to have Simon Cowell at #1 for a change.
Edit - Please consider putting your 29p towards the charity Shelter. The RATM facebook people have set up a webpage on the Just Giving website - already the level of support is fantastic and they've collected over Ј26,000.
Remember, nobody should be homeless at Christmas - so please please please consider making a donation.
    The address is https://www.justgiving.com/ratm4xmas/.
  • or buy Bob Dylan's "Must be Santa" also for charity

  • As much as I can't stand X Factor, RATM are also signed to a Cowell label to the campaign won't hurt him.
There was an element of irony in Cowell branding the RATM campaign "cynical" however. Of course, running a TV show, picking a track that managed to reach No 11 in the charts only seven months ago and releasing it just in time of Christmas isn't "cynical" at all. Oh no siree.
  • i remember people used to record the top 40 , to save money , now it seems your paying 29p a track , for someone else to do it for you , does the 29p price include anything else ? seems expensive to me , just my opinion
