A question about : MSE Newborn to 1 year (& beyond!) baby club 3

This is sister thread of the MSE Pregancy Thread 1-27

/Official MoneySavingExpert.com Insert:

What's it about?

Back in July 06 Bailey started the thread Pregnancy Club to help all pregnant MoneySavers and their partners save on anything pregnancy-related plus give each other moral support. It's been hugely popular and now has a long list of pregnant mothers-to-be, and now also has related threads for those Waiting to TTC, 'Trying for a Baby' and 'Trying for a baby (12+ M/not straightforward) , Less than 12 weeks pregnant and 12-24 weeks pregnant.

The new thread is designed as a result of requests from third Trimester ladies, to bridge across between the fast moving Pregnancy Club, and the all ages Parents thread, providing specific extra support and MSE advice for the hectic and anxious new born to first year period, and to keep in touch with all your peers from your PG threads. Whether its your first baby and you need some reassurance, or you are an old hand and have advice to share, all are welcome!

What should you do?

As well as being a great source of tips, baby-related bargains spotted, mutual support and help MoneySavers here have also gradually built up a list on the various threads giving key information about their stage.

For this thread, if you would like to join the list, we suggest adding (not mandatory though!) the following information
Baby Arrival date
Boy/Girl (Names optional)
First baby/Second etc
If you want to add yourself to the list follow these steps:
Click on the link at the top of this page that says Last (it'll take you to the last page of the discussion)
Scroll down the pages until you find the message with the very latest copy of the list in (if you use one further up the discussion other peoples' changes after that will be lost)
Copy that (highlight it and click control+c)
Click reply at the bottom of the thread to open a screen where you can past it (click control+p)
Add yourself to the list then click save
And don't feel shy. Introduce yourself, say hello and ask a question if you need to.
There are also a number of MSE Facebook groups set up by members of the PG threads, where you can share private chat, advice and photos of your LO's. To keep the ages of the lo's similar, the groups seem to close periodically, and a new group is set up for the next batch. Please ask on the PG thread, if you want to join or set one up!
Moneysaving
If you're thinking of how to cut down on nappy costs remember to have a read of the Nappy MoneySaving article too and for later down the line if you need childcare first read the Childcare Vouchers article.

Also please don't forget that this is a public forum and anyone could be reading it. Don't let this put you off discussing anything personal, just please be aware that the people posting on the thread may not be the only ones reading (it may just be that these people, aka lurkers, are too shy to post). Now enjoy your new arrivals and stay in touch with your Pregnancy Thread pals!title=Big

  • Forum rules! Freebies!
Ladies please remember the following rules
PERSONAL DETAILS AND THE OFFERING OF ITEMS FOR SALE/TRADE/EXCHANGE/SWAP/GIFTS

Please refrain from requesting the exchange of personal details either on the forum, via PM or email; particularly for the purposes of selling/trading/exchanging/swapping or giving as gifts. This includes posting links to your ebay auctions, or other forms of advertising.
If someone appears to be selling items on the board it may be deleted by the board guides/forum team. The aim is to protect site users as however honourable the intention, your safety is paramount.
    MEDICAL ADVICE
Hi, Martin's asked me to post this in these circumstances: Sorry, giving or asking for medical advice is not permitted on this forum as it's not what this site is about. While discussing medical insurance policies, cheaper ways to see consultants, cashback for alternative health treatments and how to get specific medication cheaper (legally) are all perfectly acceptable we ask you specifically not to discuss what to do in the event of certain medical problems (please see this rule on the Health Board). If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com
    CODES/VOUCHERS:
For legal reasons codes are only permitted on the Discount Codes n Vouchers (Online and Offline) Board and must be sourced and indicated who it refers to. If in doubt please read this and this for an explanation. Any posts not meeting these rules will be moved. Do not pm others requesting such codes
    FREE TO JOIN BABY CLUBS:
Tesco Baby Club - Free Pampers Hamper containing a few wipes, nappy sample, some Olay stuff. You need to buy a pack of Pampers to get it, and it's not stocked in every store so check before you set off.
Boots Parenting Club - Free changing bag when you buy a pack of nappies, I think it's Huggies but it might be Pampers. You need to wait for the voucher to arrive.
Sainsburys Little Ones - Free Mum and Baby bundle with toiletries, to be collected from store.
Emma's Diary - You should get the vouchers in the pack from your midwife but if you don't or you want more freebies you can also register and download them here. 3 bags containing lots of samples and a can of Peartiser.
Cow and Gate - You get a free cuddly cow but you need to find a code, these are normally in Parenting mags so either have a look in the shop or on the Discount Codes board.
Aptamil - Free cuddly polar bear.
Those are probably the main ones but have a look around as other places will send out vouchers, nappy samples etc. Also most of these will send you a voucher for money off nappies/wipes so keep an eye out for offers, I got 6 packs of Pampers Sensitive wipes for Ј1.66 with the Ј2 off voucher that came in my Bounty pack.
A more comprehensive list of freebies and vouchers is here.

  • :
Thanks for the shiny new thread, happy new year!
  • Ooooo nice new thread
Happy new year everyone, hope 2014 is a great year for us all.
  • Happy new year everyone.
Decided today was the day to get eilis to self settle for naps. Regretting my decision.
  • Happy new year everyone
Thanks for the nice new thread Nene
A has reached a new level of clinginess today... Needed two hands so passed her to OH and she screamed blue murder until I took her back when she was immediately all smiles again. Fingers crossed this phase passes soon!
  • Happy New Year!
congratulations Amyloofoo! yes it is weird being referred to as a mum!
LO being cute today. We've come such a long way from 14 hours a day screaming with colic! He can actually be in a lovely mood any time of the day.
  • Happy New Year ladies!
Hope everyone's well and had a good xmas and NYE. My LO slept through the fireworks, then woke up at 2am and decided it was time to party... We're at my parents until Friday, and it's been lovely - LO has grown and changed so much in the past two weeks, and she's saying new words every day. The latest ones are spoon, car, duck, shoes and scarf!
Been thinking a lot about moving this year - we need to get our flat valued and do the maths and then decide if it's doable or whether we'd end up with a mortgage so massive we'd end up struggling. But we're definitely running out of space - we've been in our first time buyers' flat for 10 years when we'd initially only planned for 2-3 years!
Hope everyone has a fab 2014 - my new year's resolutions are to eat less crap, stick to my Slimming World plan and hopefully also move house
  • Hey everyone
    Hope everyone is well.
We have a leaky roof and the roofers are coming tomorrow as it's the only day we dont have gales forecast, so thats me having to be up and dressed at silly o clock!
Still better than a saggy ceiling and the mop bucket but still...
Chaos around here, trees down all over the place!

    Happy new year everyone
My fantastic Xmas pressie from Rebecca of 10 hours sleep has carried on - getting at least 8 hours a night! Hope I'm not jinxing by saying!
When did everyone put LO's in own room? Or when do u plan to?

  • Eilis went into her own room about 10 weeks or so. Just whenever she outgrew her Moses basket.
Watching Harry Potter and I'm an emotional wreck. Just showed Harry's mum telling him as a baby "Mummy loves you, Harry". I say that to eilis. So horrible. I swear I wasn't this emotional in the cinema!
  • Scarlett is still in our room, she's coming up for 13 weeks old on Sunday. However she is still in her moses basket. Not sure what we'll do after that as seems a bit daunting to have her in her own room, have become used to her in ours.
I've been emotional tonight as been creating a flipagram of photos from scan, bump and then Scarlett as a baby right through until the end of 2013 and then set the lion king 'can you feel the love tonight' instrumental music over the top.
  • Our LO will be in her own room in about 2 weeks as she's fast outgrowing her Moses basket now (nearly 11 weeks). Does anyone have any tips on how to settle a baby in the evening? We'd loosely been putting her down in her cot about 7pm after a feed, then dream feeding at 10.30 and she would wake after that about 7am. However since her jabs she goes down asleep for the evening 'nap' and will wake 5 mins later full blown screamibg. She's obviously tired as often falls asleep during her feed but then gets herself in such a state that she will scream hysterically on us or finally conk out for a nap around 10 when I want to feed her. How can I get her to stay in her cot when she's obviously tired? Other naps she settles for fine (and her evening sleep thank goodness!)

  • T went into his own room at 7 months. He was in a crib in our room from birth (never did Moses basket). He transitioned fine, we've been using his room for changing and bedtime stories every night, so he was familiar with it. X
  • A went in her own room at 12 weeks and immediately slept better at night. Am sure we must have been disturbing each other. Like lazywife we'd been using the room for dressing, nappies etc before
